Chi-Town Hustler Funny Car (the new one)

This was a "quick" build, about 2 weeks altogether, which is lightning fast for me. I pretty much built this straight from the box with no major modifications, just some added detail. All the good things you hear about this kit are true. The fit on all the pieces is amazing, by far the best engineered kit I have built, Revell or otherwise. The only problem I had was on the hinges for the body. For some reason, the body would not clear the rear tire in the up position, so I had to modify the hinges. I haven`t heard of anyone else having this problem so I am assuming it was something I did wrong. The finished product us striking compared to my other models, and I`m not sure if it is the accuracy of the kit or the color scheme that puts it over the top.
For the body, I used krylon white primer, tamiya mica red, duplicolor red metalcast for the candy effect(need to be careful with this stuff!!), and about 5-7 coats of duplicolor clear. This combination gave it a deep candy apple red color, and I couldn`t be happier with it. I know it is not accurate to have it all rubbed out and polished like this, but I like it this way and I am unrepentant about it. The braided line is detail master .035" line. The parachute cables are cat 5 wires wrapped in masking tape and then painted silver.

Fantastic model and subject matter. Beautiful colour and finish. The extra details you have added really bring this to life. Great work.

I was a little puzzled by this build Hawk.... it is neither a corvette or camaro, So i wonder who the imposter is that built this one...lmao. All kidding aside great work as usual ,the finish on your paint is amazing! I havent been able to find this kit yet, but will keep my eyes open. Do you have any close up s of the engine!

Heh heh. I was wondering who would be the first person to say something about it. Funny thing is, I had no intention of building a subject like this....none at all. But then I started seeing the kit contents and some of the build ups others were doing, and I realized I had to build this one. I am glad I did. This is a very significant kit in my opinion.

I am going to try to get some better pics tomorrow in the AM, and will hopefully be able to capture the color a little bit better.

Hopefully you get some sunshine to capturre the true colour of the build.Im back building now... have an xmas deadline to finish the AMT USA-1 Chev mosnter truck for my 3 yr old..... How many pieces come in the kit, what are the tires like, are they the typical hard plastic typpe slick or are they more of a soft compound??

From memory there are 97 pieces. The tires are the typical harder compound that Revell has been using on these kits. Definitely nothing like the Pegasus/So Real ones. They build up convincing though.

You gotta post pics of the monster truck when you are done!

Re: Chi-Town Hustler Funny Car (the new one)

Sounds like a great kit, will have to add it to my collection.

I will post some progress pics, the body is painted pearl white, but no sunshine, so it doesn't photograph well right now! Lots of pieces int eh monster truck as well...over 100 according to the box!!
