Painting questions

You guys that painted your cars. Did you paint your car with the body on the chassis or did you take it off. The advantage of taking it off would be the ability clean and repaint the frame, where you can reach it. Mine is a series car and parts of the frame look pretty gunky. Any thoughts or experiences?

Thanks
bruce

Re: Painting questions

I removed the panels and had them painted - roof and all.

It does provide fantastic access to get a ton of things "refreshed" on the cage/frame and a few other things you will find.

Send pics - we are always curious to see whats been done.

Bruce, We painted the 14 car with the body on and just touched up the frame during the season after pressure washing it. We did find we needed to seal the fiberglass before the prime coat. We followed the Nason paint directions. It took five qts of color for the Panoz Thats a lot of paint. Good luck. As a side note I have a guy looking at the Porsche on thurs. from Fl. After that looking for another race car. Only one this time. Besat

Re: Painting questions

I removed all my panels, gave me time to paint and do maintenance checks and you got to paint/fix the entire panel... Was also easier to paint DIY since i didnt have a full size paint booth
