Question Engine Bay Painted - Questions? Please Help!

Hey all - I haven't posted on here awhile!

I got a question regarding my 6th generation civic.

I'm having the engine bay painted and I have a few questions on costs and such.

The guy who I'm having it painted by gave me a 200 dollar labor estimate and then whatever for paint. The engine is taken out and now just the mess of wires etc along the firewall etc.

These are the prices for paint clear coat etc I got from a paint store. He said he can get a way better deal so just wondering if what i'm about to type out is enough paint / clear coat / hardener / reducer etc..

Quart of Ureth. Reducer Med. Temp. quanty x1 $12.38
Pint of Deltron 2000 Basecoat quanty x1 $34.16
Quart of Omni High Solids Urethane Clear Coat quanty x1 $15.62
1/2Pint of Omni Fast TopCoat Hardner quanty x2 $26.08

Now one thing that was kinda weird is that he said I would need like two (2) quarts of clear coat.. I'm thinking that's a hella lot of clear for just my engine bay.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Well, $200 for labor seems to be reasonable. The cost for paint, is about what I have seen. If he can get paint for cheaper, it will probably be cheaper quality. Paint is one thing you do not want to go with the cheapest there is. So ask him about that.

Now, for the clear coat, that sounds fishy there. A pint would be plenty. With 2qts, you could cover your car and my car, and have some left over. So ask him why he feels he needs 2 qts.

Hope that helps a little.

Hey thanks for the reply I appreciate it.

Yeah the clear coat sounds kinda weird ... the only thing is the paint store said that the paint color i'm gettin only comes in the high qual base coats yadda yadda.. but beyond that..

are the amounts for each component that i listed should be enough for this job?

Thanks!!

I think a pint of each would be plenty. But, I know you cant always get what you want in a pint. So everything looks right to me.

Let us know how things go.
