Axle OK but have a question
hey guys,
I have a question pertaining to the rear of my 2000 Windstar. I checked the axle today to see if it was damaged, rusted or otherwise show any signs of failure. The axle looked pretty good, especially for being here in upstate NY where salt is used ALOT. Well, my question pertains to the bar that is between the axle and the gas tank. Is that a stabilizer bar or something, it runs at an angle and is also upside down U shaped. Mine looks severly rusted and was wondering about this part. Thanks, Steve

It's a Panhard rod, a common suspension element on solid rear axles. Some details here:
