Drove car w/o oil I think

Hello-
I have a SW2 and as I got home I noticed the temp gauge was higher than normal and the fan kicked on. No warning lights came on so I was surprised to find the dipstick had no oil on it. The car ran fine, no noises just hotter than normal. It probably ran hot for a less than a minute before I reached home.

I will be checking the oil constantly from now on.

Did I do any damage to the motor?
Thanks

in future you could possibly blow engine. Bearings would probubly go bad first if anything is wrong.

Re: Drove car w/o oil I think

Thanks for the reply. It took 2/3 quart to get the oil to show on the dipstick. That's how low it was. I don't think it actually ran dry. The coolant was very low. The low coolant light has always flashed even when it is full.

Today the car ran fine. Temp perfect and no abnormal noises. I hope the high temp was from low coolant.
So is it possible that no damage occurred?

Re: Drove car w/o oil I think

There is an oil treatment out there I swear by, espically in Saturns that are know for using oil. It is called Dura-Lube. For extra protection I would add it (around $15).
(Slick-50 and Lucas Oil work good too, I just have allways used Dura-Lube)

In my first Saturn (94 SL) I added this treatment at the recomendation of a buddy. Later, my sister borrowed the car, hit something in the road, punctured the oil pan, then drove it until it died. After I had it towed home, I figured it was a gonner. Well the next day I fixed the oil pan, added oil and it started right up. I ran it for another 120,000 miles (until I get rearended at 55mph).
I have used Dura-Lube in every vehicle I have ever had since. Including my current 97 SL2 that has almost 220,000 miles.

So far so good after a few days of driving. Temp is good and MPG is normal. Still no noises. I guess it will be fine.

If not touching stick, it probable was 2-quarts short.
Oil check light will trigger @ warning!
Just Tires has a $19.95 oil change special, but cost $4 to throw away the old oil filter.
