380SL soft top weatherstrip

I put a new soft top on my 380SL. The directions that came with the top didn't say anything about the weatherstrip that goes between the soft top and the soft top frame above the doors. Should this weatherstrip be glued to the frame and the soft top, or just to the frame? I glued to both, but the top came loose from the frame when I put the top down.
