Quiet muffler help needed.
I would like to have a quiet muffler put on my car. Went to the muffler shop and they just wanted to sell me what the had in stock. I was hoping some one here could lead me a good brand and model number. I have a 1961 390 cadillac engine. I might be driving down your steet. Thanks Dave

Re: Quiet muffler help needed.
Dave, any major parts house can find what you need, or match it by dimensions.

Re: Quiet muffler help needed.
Yea, But I did not want someone to sell me one that not super quiet or poorly made. They must make good and bad ones. That what I was hoping someone here could tell me. Dave

Re: Quiet muffler help needed.
The parts store next door has a Walker book that goes back to '65. The part number for the '65 Coupe and Sedan de Ville is "21385". It has 2 1/4" pipes, in and out. I realize this isn't the '61, however, the part number changed in '68, which is the same year the engine "family" changed (429 is the same family as 390). It's conceivable the 61 used the same muffler as the '65. One could always contact a Walker dealer and negotiate a situation where you could order it under the agreement that if it fits, it's "sold", but since proper catelogs for the older car aren't available, if it doesn't fit, they'll take it back. This could motivate them to get you the right part the first time!
