read computer codes w/o device
On my other vehicles (Dodge Dakota--3 key on/off cycles--then check engine lite will flashe codes) (Chev. Astrovan--short 2 pins on ASM connector--check engine lite flashes codes**), I can find out what computer codes are stored without needing a special device. Is there a special procedure that will accomplish this on a 1996 Volks Jetta GLS? Is there also a way to clear all existing codes which are stored??
THanks-in-advance for any/all replies... All assistance is MOST appreciated... HomeA. **interesting to note that when calling the manufacturer of one brand of engine diagnostic code reading device that Autozone carries, the tech support guy on the phone said quite frankly that the device for my Astrovan was simple a plastic box that plugged-in and shorted the two pins that cause the codes to flash---he said I could save the $39.95 by just using a paperclip partially wrapped in electrical tape. It worked great!! |
