Molded Bodykit
Hey,
i jsut put on my body kit but havnt painted it yet jsut put on the primer. i molded the kit into my fender with bondo but ne time i tap the kit on something its cracks along the seems were i moled it. can any one tell me a different substance to use or any sugestions so i can redo it and get my car repainted. thnx trev Last edited by DSM_tuner; 05-07-2003 at 12:10 AM.

You wont find any way around the problem except not bumping it on things; whatever you do either the filler or the paint covering it will crack off as the car/kit flexes.

It sounds like you did not let the Bondo cure enough.

also, if you just "blended it" with bondo, you may not get a good tight fit, b/c the kit is only "molded" in that one area along that seam.
if you actually use more fiberglass to blend/bond the kit to the car, you'll have less issues... keep in mind that the kit is only attached solidly there (where you molded it) and where it is bolted to the body, so the rest will flex and move around

youre probably gonna have to do a complete mold. meaning like you probaly just kind of covered the seam, you have to fill in the entire , thing as mention fiberglass might work but youll have to be careful and patient for that.

hay guys.. im new to this area of af (normally in the model section) just wanted to give you a picture of what a body kit should look like when in the molding process.. this is our car that has been in the shop for the last year and a half..

do what I did...
1. install the side skirts to where you want it... 2. shoot some 'pivets' (nails) where the front/rear fenders of the skirts are, and shoot pivets on the side skirts at the bottom near the door sills.. 3. check to make sure the side skirts are on attached to the car "hard", and where it can't be moved and bend.. 4. use bondo and mold the side skirts on... 5. tada. you are done... now its on there real tight.. I molded my side skirts on and its been years, hasn't crack on the sides or anything... Hope that helps.. David
