Barn Find to Smooth Hot Rod

This is my latest project, my first ever model I did remade into a smooth Hot Rod. I made it into a roadster. I did at least 5 hours worth of sanding to get the body as smooth as I could starting with 100 grit and finishing with 4000 grit. The wheels I took from my firebird, I lowered the suspension, made the windscreen pillarless and the kit engine was upgraded from my parts box. I have yet to locate a steering wheel and have to finish the chassis off. Probably around 95% finished but close enough to put in Completed Projects.

Please tell me what you think as this is the first time I have used clear!

Re: Barn Find to Smooth Hot Rod

I like the style. The paint both inside and out could use some work though. Very nice model considering the starting point.

Re: Barn Find to Smooth Hot Rod

I missed saying about shaving the running boards and the top of the guards to make it smooth

Re: Barn Find to Smooth Hot Rod

Anybody, please I need to know what the problem is. I'm not trying to be annoying it's just I know I'm not a perfect modeler, I only started around two years ago. I need help and some guide to see what I need to work on!

Re: Barn Find to Smooth Hot Rod

If you want a really critical review, you'll need to get some better pictures. Those are decent to show off the basic build, but you need to use the macro function on your digicam (the little flower) and play around with it until you figure out how to get really clear close up shots.

From what I can see in the pics, you have a really good style with this build, but the paint looks as if it were brushed on. As for how realistic it is, the only suggestion I can give is to look at real cars, and try to duplicate details using around the house items such as wires, plastic scraps, electronic parts, etc.

Look at some of the tips and techniques in the FAQ section. there are lots of helpful posts.

For a somewhat beginner, I would say you did a great job. If you are unhappy with the results, don't get frustrated, just get another model and try again. I promise you will get better.
