The Machine, the myth, the Legend: Pics of Layla
Well, I finally got a day that flattered her and a camera that worked, so here she is guys. Layla in all her Royale Blue glory.
Please note the single downdraught Weber two barrel carb. It's worth at least 30hp. I know she's a little bit of a wreck. I've told you guys that before, but isn't she stellar all the same? By the way, Flywsi, you should be able to see why she's not on the road and therefore hasn't dusted your Prelude. J/K

Well, there are people who've stuck rotaries in the B's little brother, the Midget. It's getting to be a popular swap. There are three bigger engined factory B's as well. There was the MGC which had a 3.0L straight six (Austin derived), the MGB GT V-8 (powered by the Rover/Buick aluminum 3.5L V-8) and the RV-8 (a mid-90's restyle with the Rover 4.0L aluminum V-8)
The kits are still floating around and I'm seriously considering the Rover 4.0L V-8. It's a direct bolt-in that actually takes 45lbs off the nose. Not to mention a Rover 4.0L in good tune (like, say, a TVR Griffith 500) can produce around 300hp. And fatninja19, that's what an engine bay looks like without power steering, power brakes, electronics, or emissions gear. Heck, the heater is just a fan that blows hot engine compartment air into the interior. Not even a fluid radiator.

And you keep saying she's in bad shape.. but the pictures don't show it. The interior looks decently clean, and the body isn't too bad... Are the pictures deceptive or are my eyes deceptive??

Well, the average MGB GT costs between $500 to $4000 depending on condition. Here's some links to ones on eBay right now.
Red 1974 MGB GT with overdrive Red 1969 MGB GT (this one's more like Layla) British Racing Green 1967 MGB GT As you can see, they aren't too terribly expensive and they're EXTREMELY fun to drive. Just be prepared to work a little bit and parts aren't always in ready supply (although there are tons and tons of sites out on the net devoted to these little cars here's my favorite The Proper MG ). It's an absolute blast to wring 160, 170, and even 210 streetable bhp out of the little 1.8L OHV engine and you're almost guaranteed you won't see another like it on the street against you. Plus they handle in the same league as all the modern small cars (including Civics, Miatas, 240SX's, Sentra SE-R's) and actually get good gas mileage! As for the pics, they do a good job showing the body condition, but don't show the holes in the floorboards (I have new floorpans on the way) or the bad fit of the passenger door. She's pretty good for $450, but a long way from being perfect. But that's part of the fun.
