The WRX is far from being a "pure sports car".

I just bought an Audi A4. I had originally had my heart set on a WRX but because of reasons out of my contol, i could not buy it. When it comes to the Wrx it is definatly the more enjoyable car because of its power. However, the Audi does have great fun to it as well. Audi seems to lack in the power section - its only 200cc smaller than the wrx, yet it falls behind by a good 57bhp!
However, when it comes to the enterior, the Audi beats the WRX by a few miles. Just look at its technology - Things like Gala - which you'll never find in a WRX. Want to know your fuel economy, average fuel economy, average speed, time of journey, kms before fuel finishes? Then look no further than the Audi.
The interior of Subaru's do definatly lack.
When it comes to modifications, the WRX is definatly the better option, cause there are so many after market makers out there, like scooby sport for example. The subaru offers you the choice of making a street car, or a rally car.
The Audi doesn't have no where near as many modifiers - making it a little more difficult, but not impossible to modify.

So this is the breakdown:

Driving thrill - WRX
Interior thrill - Audi
Comfort - Audi
Posh look - Audi
Sporty look - WRX
Fuel economy - Equal
Modifications - WRX
AWD or Quattro - Makes no difference, both are very good.
Safety - Audi - thats not too say the WRX is an unsafe car!

The choice is yours!

I assume you bought the 1.8t, since you mention the differnce in HP available.

I would have to disagree with you in the statement of tubability. The 1.8t is a highly tunable engine, with many, many tuners supporting it and the Audi line of products, giving you just as much, if not an easier chance to mod the A4 1.8t to give the wrx a good run.

Is this option on only the new ones, or do they have these for the 96-00?

and a better interior... there both good cars and both can be modded as well..but IMO audi is much more of a solid car vs the wrx..

Wow you guys really beat down on each other

im thinking of getting the wrx

ive heard alot of rumors about audi's electrical problems

my friend bought an a6 with all the options and he said it was the biggest dissapointment he has had...

he had to take it back to the shop right after he got it and all this stuff etc etc

he was almost going to use the lemon law against the car because he had to take it in so many times..

as for the 1.8 a4... i kinda like the way it looks
i drive an s4 and its fine to me

well, i think if you look in the pricings of both cars, you should see that the A4 is more expensive, but i think its funner to drive in a 4x4 2.0 liter WRX turbo. but if your going for the comfort, u should defenetly go for the Audi.

Here is the scoop between both cars the WRX and the A4 1.8T Quattro

2004 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro
Base MSRP : $26,850
Sport Package: $1.000
Destinatin Charge: $660
Bose Premium Sound: $650
Total Price: $29,610
Wheelbase: 104.3"
Length: 179.0"
Ground Clearance: 4.2"
Width: 76.3"
Front Track: 69.5"
Rear Track: 60.1"
Interior Volume: 103.5'
Warranty 4 Year/50K
Engine: 1.8 Liter 4 Cylinder 5 valves Per Cylinder
HP: 170HP
0-60 7.9 Seconds
Top Speed 130MPH GOV.
EPA Fuel Economy 21/29
Curb Weight 3406 LBS
Fuel Tank 17.4 Gallons

Now A comparably equipped 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX (NOT STI)
Base MSRP : $24,495
Sport Package: $3,504
Destinatin Charge: $550
Premium Sound: $430
Total Price: $28,979
Wheelbase: 99.4"
Length: 173.8'
Ground Clearance: 6.1"
Width: 68.5'
Front Track: 58.5"
Rear Track: 58.3'

Interior Volume Total: 87.6'

Warranty 3 Year/ 36k
Engine: 2.0 Liter Horizontaly Opposed 4 Cylinder 16- valve with Dual Overhead Camshaft design
HP: 227HP
0-60 5.5 Seconds
Top Speed 143MPH Gov.
EPA Fuel Economy 20/27
Curb Weight 3085
Fuel Tank 15.9 gallons

So All in all the WRX is about $631 cheaper, 321lbs lighter, 2.4 seconds quicker from 0 -60, 13mph higher top speed, produces 57 more hp, has 4.9" shorter wheelbase, is 5.2" shorter overall, has a ground clearnce that is 1.9" higher, is 7.8" thinner, has an 11" shorter front track, has a 1.8" shorter rear track, has 15.9' cu. ft less interior volume, has 200cc more, has a year less and 14K less on the warranty than the audi. However the audi seems to win in overall size and comfort and warranty. They both have very comparably AWD systems. Audi unveiled theirs in 1989 and subaru did theirs in 1976. Subaru has won countless rallies and road races. Audi has won countless of races especially the speed channel GT Cup with the A4. The Audi sadly lacks reliability. According to Consumer reports its considered a used to avoid. While the Impreza is recommended as best buy for a used car. Back to the new car ratings the Impreza WRX is also a best buy while the audi is considered an also ran. Performance Wise the most i have ever seen an 1.8T pushed is 450HP while the impreza's 2.0 can easily make 650+ as Jun has proven with the fastest impreza in the world. Set the track record at Tsukuba circuit at 58 seconds flat (F1 cars lap at about 49 to 51 seconds). The modifications for the WRX and the A4 are on par with the each as to cost. The average oil change at the dealer cost $25 at subaru and $62 at audi. 70K service is $1200 at audi while the subaru cost $750 with the same service. As a result on the insurance side the WRX is on average about 9% cheaper than the Audi due to the classification of the vehicle by demographics as to who would purchase it. Funny thing is if you read Automobile mag. they compared the STi and the M5 and said they are exact match to each other it just depends how deep your pockets are and how much you want to spend. They are both race inspired vehicles and are backed by a long history of performance and race trophies. So take your pic. I have researched this way too much. I have also started reasearching the Lancer EVO, WRX STi, and the S4. I believe the impreza is better buy! Think Resale value too Audi A4 does not have a very high resale value according to edmunds. Due to their reliability problems. Don't flame me I take all my information from statistics posted by JD power associates, edmunds review, car and driver, motor trend, automobile, and the manufactures websites, as well as insurance companies.

just my .50cents

P.S. the A4 never made the Car and Driver 10Best in its life the impreza made it in in 2002, and 2003. all i say is don't expect too much from audi as their are othe manufacturers that are better!
