It all depends on the catalytic converter. legally you cant change anything before the cat. If you have a single cat, you cant make it into dual. Even if you were to put one cat on each side, its still illegal. Its rediculous but thats what every place told me so i resorted to buying my own equiptment and making a complete exhaust system all the way back from my headers. AND even with buying all the tools, i was still under the price that one shop said it would cost for them to do it. i recomend cherrybombs, for the price and for the sound. cant go wrong for 20 bucks, thats what i'm putting on my truck.

Cherrybombs? For less than 20 bucks you can glue a chili can on your tail pipe and get about the same performance and sound. There is no freakin law on how your supposed to have an exaust system! If it passes emissions, you're good to go. If you pull the stuffing out of your cat, the orange light comes on and thats to tell you that you won't be passing emissions. My brother has a whipple supercharger on his truck and blew both cats out in a couple hours. Good thing they are warrantied until 80,000 miles. My other friend has a garrett turbo on his silverado and he blew the cat stuffing out too. My brother and I both have flow masters. It's basically just a single in, duel out with stainless tips, coming up to $400 bucks. My truck was louder than his before he supercharged it because I have a ram air intake system. The pipes helped a little with the mid to high torque, not much difference in horsepower. The true cold air intake on my truck helped the most. I have a scoop in my air dam that forces air into the box encasing my k&n tip (on the package it said for off road use only, and I haven't have one problem passing emissions). That keeps my truck much cooler. Two of my friends have magnaflows and I like the sound better than mine. I'm also slightly concerned about the back pressure design of the flowmaster cause it seems like everytime I install a flowmaster on my truck, I get exaust leaks in the donut gaskets right after the collecter. That might also have to do with my truck running constantly at 4000 rpms or more (yea, I have a lead foot)

Tell me guys what you think. I was thinking true duals with X-pipe and magnaflows on my 2000 6.0l. Is there any way to get around the starting problem with true duals on this engine? Also, will I get bad mileage with this setup. Thanks in advance for input.

My 2000 6.0 factory exhaust has true dual with 2 converters until the back muffler two pipes in but only one out. just can't understand why they didn't go all the way out. Is this a common setup for 2500? most 1500 I seen have single exhaust

Re: silverado exhaust
Hate To Bust Everybodys Bubble, But I Went From Flowmasters To Glasspacks To Nothing At All On My 03 5.3. The Converters Are So Restrictive That With Any Muffler Its Just Gonna Sound Like A Little Turbo Muff. I Like Mine A Little Louder Than Most Though. Next Is The Cats And Then A Borla Pro Xs Single In And Dual Out.

I have a 99 Silverado Z-71 with the 5.3 V8. I first had a Y-pipe dual system with aluminuzed pipe. It wasn't very loud, infact it lasted about 2 years before it started to rust. I finally went to a total stainless steel True dual system with no mufflers. If you want it to last, go with stainless. One drawback-I got a ticket for the loud exhaust, oh, and by the way stainless is about 3-4X the cost of aluminized pipe.
