Again with the Rx-7s... with V8s.
Yes its a nice concept and they do work. But, the cost buying a Donor car and then Converting it to accept the alien transplant takes time and money. The man still needs to get to work... cant go with out a car. Then, even though its 'emissions legal' try explaining that to a Smog Referee station. They'll hound you on everything from a Visual inspection to a smog test. Not to mention you have to convince then to even allow you to do a swap of that sort. I've done my research on it for V8 swaps into other cars... like S-10s and other cars. I personally wouldnt do such a deal as a daily driver unless you've got money to throw at it to make it right.

aww, rotaries aren't had to fix, you just have to fix them a LOT and its not cheap
![]() But dont put a piston engine in a 7, for the love of god! A second gen RX-7 weighs 2700 pounds. If you're going to be throwing money at a car, put a 3 rotor cosmo engine in a 7, and then put a sick turbo on it. T78 or so. f you're not going to throw a lot of money at a car, stay away from a 7. Basically, you can get a 2nd gen 7 for stupid cheap, and then run a cosmo engine in it (and mod it) for around $15k. faaaast

How much does a 20B with a bigass turbo on it weigh, btw? Compare that to the 410lbs the 5.0 HO in TV's bird weighs.
Redneck, in your swapping info, did you find out that engine swaps in Cali are legit with emissions, as long as you swap a newer engine into an older car? Also, the 5.0 swap into a series 1/2 RX7 is unimaginably easy, it's all bolt in with the exception of a few shallow dents you have to make in the firewall. The intake will clear the hood, the tranny will fit in the tunnel, and you can even use your 8.8 rear end. TV, pay close attention to this link... http://members.tripod.com/~grannys/1...fiinstall.html

Yeah, I did find out about emmissions and it is legal.
But, remember TV would still have to purchase a dead or dieing Rx-7, then somehow pull the motor/tranny from the Bird and fix what is wrong with them. Probably a light engine rebuild and a extensive transmission rebuild. Then as the fellow said on that site, after five or six fridays worth of work. That results in almost a week of having no Car. I wont even begin to explain how TV's parents hardly will let him change his oil at home let alone perform and Engine/Tranny Pull, Engine/Tranny Rebuild... then a maybe a Engine/Tranny pull from the Donor Rx-7... and then performing the ceremonial dropping of the power plant into the Rx-7 with many cheers. His parents are just plain Idiots. Zero Common sense. Trust Us when we say this. hahaha.

how about a 944 then? Or a Daytona IROC or 2.2L Turbo *the sohc one, not the lotus built dohc with valve springs too stiff for the car*
Both fairly stock easy Or maby rebuild the tranny/engine tranny-600 engine-1000 *including lighter flywheel and possably a new cam, still decent on the gas and smog legal* tires-200 *i'm poor and cheep* brakes-80 *if I do it myself, just the rear, front are fairly new* paint-50 *once again, myself* so far i'd be faster, at 0 on the drivetrain *mostly* and still have the bird cost so far $1,930 So far this is looking good... Cost of a decent Del Sol $3,000 Cost of a decent RX7, ,2nd gen and up $2,000 cost of a 944...decent...sorta $5,500 cost of a Daytona IROC $4,000 Cost of the stang (s) I want $2,000 to $25,000 This is from all i've found and believe me i've been looking, and I'm still open to ideas untill the bird blows up, or I get killed on the freeway *I avarage 1,200 miles a month on the freeway* Now...today I find out if I got the new job....*i'm nervous as fuck* but if I dont get it...i'm going to go postal :twoguns:

I note you can pick up a good RX7 for around $1000-$1500, and swap your complete drivetrain into it for a minimal outlay, of a few hundred...
Not bad for supercar performance, and Honda fuel economy...

i'd say your best bet would be to maybe get a mk3 supra cheap as dirt kinda overlooked a lot but they are pretty fast
also what about an older 300z? |
