I was planning of showing you the steps of the paint process of the body but I continued to apply the coats without taking any picture
so here is the final stage. The body is painted with a metallic blue and I had the same problem as using other metallic colours, it was hard to get a uniform coat since even in the pre-final coat it was visible many darken parts especially in the front cover. It took six coats, two of white primer and four of Alpine Blue. The interior is also almost done and I will post a picture of it soon. ![]() ![]() I have made a change of plans about the decals scheme. I will go for 71 Monte Carlo Rally version. I’m having lots of difficulty to find some photos of this car (especially the back part) in order to apply correctly de decals. If someone have access to some photos that can send me it will be a great help. Thanks

Gainsbourg,
I did an image search on www.google.com and it turned up a whole lot of photos of the car, including some of rear angle and engine shots. I would post them here but I thought perhaps you would like to do the search and see everyting it turns up to see what you need? Hope it helps, sorry if it doesn't BTW, the car is looking good ![]() Ray

I was lucky enough to find the Burago 1/24 scale die cast of the 71 Monte Carlo rally version for 7 US dollars. I don't like diecasts but this one caught my eye. Does any body know if these wheels are the right ones?

I only have the commercial rims for the A110 so for now I will use them, but I will talk with my hobby shop in order to know if someone produce the competition rims. Thanks for the tip about google Ray , I have found enough photos so I can make a decent replica of the Rally Alpine. More progress photos to come.

Coming a long well there Gains, can't wait to see it finished. The Alpine A110s are such cool little cars, astonishingly small and light, much like the Mini I suppose but way more sophisticated
![]() I too plan to build the 1971 Monte winner. Incidentally the driver of that car, Ove Andersson is the Boss of Toyota's motorsport operation, formerly TTE, now Toyota F1 or something. Wasting their time in F1, hopefully they will get sick of going around in circles soon and return to the WRC. Excuse me I seem to have gone off on a tangent ![]() Renaissance have the correct wheels in with their decal sheet. What sheet are you using? If you need decal placement information I can scan the Renaissance drawings for you. Why did you change your mind about the Portugal car? Nicolas and Todt, wonder if they did all right for themselves

Well, I confess that I’m not a great fan of Jean Tood, as I’m not of anyone who think is superior to the sportive truth.
Anyway that’s not why I changed my mind. The decals I have are from Décals Carpena and they come with just one black and white photo of the car for “help” in the decal placement. I’ve sent some mails to a sport newspaper in Portugal and even to the organisers of the Portugal Rally without any answer. Since the Monte Carlo version has less decals and I’ve found some photos in the net of the real model I’ve decided to change for this decal scheme. Yes, if you can do me that favour I’d like to see the Renaissance decal placement information.

But I thought Toyota was banned from the WRC, for racing illegal-spec Corollas, can they be reinstated?

Dan,
If I remember correctly, Toyota were not banned for illegal spec Corollas at all. They were issued a 2 year ban for running illegal spec Celica, when they returned to the championship, they came back with the Corolla. Toyota withdrew themselves from the WRC because they wanted to develop the F1 car which meant there was not enough funding to do both. This is the way I know it, if I am wrong, somebody please correct me. Ray

A shame you couldn't find any pictures of the Portugal car. I understand it is a bit difficult to build the car if you have no references or instructions
![]() I've posted a scan a scan of the Renaissance drawings here. Hope they are of some use. Yeah Toyota were banned for twelve months after the Catalunya rally in 1995. They were running the Celica ST205 at the time, Didier Auriol's car was found to have an ingenious device fitted to the turbo inlet. The contraption opened up under load and allowed the engines to breathe much more air than just the standard 30mm FIA restrictor plate allowed. When the engine was turned off for scrutineering it snapped shut agian and looked normal. The mistake they made was to let Juha Kankkunen lead a tarmac rally - a bit suspicious! For all the 'Old Foxes' greatness, a tarmac specialist he was not! Compared to some of the things the big (red) teams in formula one get away with a 12 month ban was an enormous punishment and could very easily have killed the World Rally Championship. Fortunately the series survived and Toyota returned full time in 1998. They then pulled out voluntarily at the end of 1999 after winning the manufacturers championship for a final time. |

Thanks for the drawing Phil.
For sure I rider like to build a version of my home rally but if I know that I can’t assure that I apply the decals correctly like the real car I prefer not to do it. I will take at least one more week before I star applying the decals so I leave a task for my A.F. modeller colleges. I will be really grateful if someone can find me information so I can build the Alpine A110 from the 1971 or 1973 Portugal Rally.Meanwhile here is a photo of the current status of the project: ![]() Some Tamiya tape is a great help for painting all the silver lines. Front lights are really easy to build since they already are chromate in the box. Just needed to paint the clear yellow of the light. Hope you like it so far. More progress photos soon. |
