Re: cold Air intake eclipse 00
If you can take off your wheel and know where your airbox and piping are located and can follow picture installation instructions than you can do it yourself. On the other hand, as was previously stated, you should gain knowledge before hp. Learn about your car before you start to mod...this board is a great place.
Revolution..to answer your other question, the ones on ebay are fine. IMHO, all intakes are the same, a pipe and a filter. Granted some filters are better at filtration, then others, I personally would get the pipes on ebay and throw on a K&N cone filter if you are the type to be extra careful and worried about filtration. When you pay for a brand name, you essentially get...the brand name. Some of them have gone through the trouble of making sure their intakes are carb legal. When you buy a name, you get the same intake, a (insert brandname here) sticker, and a Carb sticker. Granted some may be concerned about their carb legality. I have never heard of anyone getting a ticket for not being carb legal. There is no way a cop would care about his unless in an extreme instance he pulled you over street racing and you were a dick to him or he's a dick in general and searches every inch of your car to write up every ticket possible. 2ndly, AEM is not junk. Any rubber in your engine bay can rot...if not taken care of. Any car can rust. you don't blame Mitsu, you blame the salt and the owner who didn't wash it off. Lastly, the bypass valve is a good idea, in theory, but in real life, I don't think it's necessary, unless you drive through 6inch deep puddles/flash floods alot. It's just a 30 bucks you could put into something else. I am not trying to argue, I just think the opposing viewpoint is a valid one as well.

Re: cold Air intake eclipse 00
True, I didn't take Cali spec into consideration. I know California is tough on emissions, but I guess I never really thought about it.
Do they physically check your intake though? I never realized an ebay intake make you fail emissions. Here we just have to worry about cats/precats being gutted or running too rich. I also always assumed emissions was just checking what gets emitted from the tailpipes, not looking over your intake and such? I just assumed, they checked your CO2 levels and such, not inspected your parts. That's pretty crazy.

Re: cold Air intake eclipse 00
Yeah, from what i have learned, any aftermarket part on your car (affecting the performance and emissions of the car that is) has to have a CARB number, or you get a violation. Gay isnt it?
