Re: BOV questions....

To finish up on JoeWagons point, I use the MAFt for two reasons really. One is that I need a serious BOV that will not leak. I use the SARD. The Tial has been mentioned and is equally sufficient. The other reason is that the stock 2g airflow sensor is good to about 450 wheel HP. I exceeded its limits at the shootout last year, and its ugly Accurate airflow measurements are absolutely critical to good power and safe operation. With the mods going on the car this week, the stock MAS wouldnt be of any use at all.

I got into the whole MAFt setup for 300 bucks. The unit is 200, the MAF can be bought for as low as 40 bucks online (98 new at gmpartsdirect), and a pair of couplers. For a 2g, dont bother until you approach 400 whp, or really want to use a Tial/SARD or similar. For a 1g however, it makes sense to go to the MAFt much sooner, since its stock MAS has much lower capacity. And this is much cheaper than the old VPC fix.

A little off topic, but MAFt always comes up in a BOV discussion

Re: BOV questions....

Well I doubt I"ll be exceeding 450 any time soon. So should I stick with recirculating? any suggestions on how to keep it from leaking? Thanks for the help

Re: BOV questions....

YEs, recirculating will be the best route to take. Wether or not it leaks depends on the quality of the valve you buy. The TurboXS ones all leak at the rubber orings. For other types, you'll have to pressure test yourself to be sure its not leaking. If it is, try to correct it. Etc.

Re: BOV questions....

Any suggestions on a quality BOV? I was looking towards the greddy type-s or hks ssq. Both will be mounted to upgraded upper intercooler piping. Which is why I was thinking of the type-s. Let me know what your suggestions are

Re: BOV questions....

I try to avoid commneting on the name brand valves, since I havent used any myself. But they should both work well enough for most setups. Personally I am not really satisfied why any of the regular BOV options, and that was part of my decision to go to a serious valve, but like we have mentioned, that opens up a whole new can of worms.

My only suggestion is to try to take advice from people that have actually pressure tested thier intakes using the BOV in questions. People will say "it works great" but wonder why they are running a full second slower than thier setup should be, if you know what I mean
