It says VTEC across the top of the valve cover, so you'd know if you had it. Your stock motor is a D15B, as already said, but with a number designation. The JDM has no number after the B. This is a cool motor, I sold one to a kid and I'm putting it in this week. I know Kris has put this engine in for several people too. I can get one for you for around $550 shipped. Email me if you're interested in getting one. The nice thing is that this motor will rev high with no sweat, like 8K RPM.

hey im planning to get a jdm d15 for my 88 hatch do you think you could hook me up for around 550 shipped and i was wondering if its complete or is it just the block thx....

you know i got a 90 crx dx..and i've been looking into all sohc engines to swap in..From the D15b vtec, d15zc,d16z6,etc...and i'm stumped..they all seem to do more or less same power. BUT in conclusion i'd go with the d15b vtec..high rev..nice power 125-130 with a nice way of saving gas also. When i get the engine whats the first thing i should do..since my crx has the stock d15b sohc dpfi i wanna know what i should change..any tip from anyone..

laterz,
J.

Re: D15b - 125-130hp???

My first recommendation would be to go with a nice, healthy Z6 instead of the d15b. The D15b boasts nice hp, but I put one in a friend's car, and it was disappointingly torque-less. His car was waaaay slower than my similarly modified d16z6 crx, although I have to say I'm a better driver!

If you want a sohc, do the z6, which the importers call the ZC-VTEC. If you want a dohc, I had a DOHC ZC which wasn't too bad, was peppy and fun to drive, and which looked sweet in the engine bay.

Just my $0.02...

Re: D15b - 125-130hp???

there are actually 3 versions of the D15B VTEC...the VTEC-E version(as stated before), the OBD1 "regular VTEC"(the one with the "Z6 head"), and finally the OBD2 3-Stage VTEC Engine(has 2 VTEC solenoids).

Re: D15b - 125-130hp???

id suggest the d16z6; plenty of them available, more displacement than a d15b. most of you will say the d15b will rev higher, thats untrue because there are lots of guys who are revving d16z6s and d16y8s to ~7900rpm with built heads.

Re: D15b - 125-130hp???

True. I used to think the D15bvtec was better, but after I got my z6 running right, it thrashed on all the d15 guys easily. It is entirely possible to rev the z6 equally high.

Speaking of which, if any of you all are looking for a SOHC vtec motor, I'm selling my complete swap, still in my crx, you can check it out in the car if you want... pm me if interested...

Re: D15b - 125-130hp???

omg is it so hard to read!!!!!!!!!! first i would buy some nos stickers for some added hp and a big wing. look in the million other threads to what weve told ppl. go with a d15b vtec or any sohc vtec cuz they will drop in. if you want the best FLIPPIN SWEET MOTOR go with a b18c5 or b20vtec but i doubt youd be able to install them. its gonna run you infiniti dollars because you can spend what you want and go crazy. damn NOOOOOOOOOOOOOBS!!

oh yeah thanks for reviving yet another old thread. read the forum rules and the noob sticky theyll tell you what you want...clown.

Re: D15b - 125-130hp???

i think his has probably been sold for a while now..if youre looking for one for that price you might be able to find one but its probly not gonna have the transmission on it for 550..ive seen them online for 750 for the motor alone.

just let this thread die.

Can anyone guess what this is? It's the time-line of posts in this thread.. notice, that every time jump, coincides w/ a n00b posting, then a few more posts, then a n00b, approx a year later... seriously.

And I already expect the flaming for actually taking the time to copy all that info down, but I assure you all, I did it the short way I'm smart like that.
