Larry, IIRC you briefly reviewed Fujimi's F355 in Scale Auto, somebody I know (forgot who at this point) tried to get it from you at one point...it must have been one of the dozen or so that trickled into the country, it seems...they're rare as hen's teeth, but they were done. I've also seen the GTS, which has a more correct interior and updated F355 chassis...it has the F355 dash, but NO door panels! They also did a Challenge version. This Berlinetta has the 348 interior and chassis.

Ahh, Fujimi. One company that tries pretty damned hard to make AMT/RC2 look good...

I never saw the GTS. I would think Fujimi could still produce the kit, licensing withstanding. That was the black car Neil Moritz was driving in TFATF.

Agreed on the looks of the F355. Its as much of a massive improvement over the 348 as the 288 GTO was over the 308 GTB. And the 288 has this timeless muscular beauty...!

The GTB has 348 interior and chassis, but they tooled the correct interior and chassis for the GTS, since interior is more visible. When the Challenge was issued, it had new interior and chassis.
I had to buy the Challenge, so that I can make a correct GTB, and I was going to use the Challenge wheel for something else, which I forgot now.

Fujimi can reissue their Ferraris, but they told me that Mattel said no. I guess, Mattel might have a policy to issue the license to one plastic kit manufacturer per country. But that was before IDEA was founded, so things might change. Just remember, that Fujimi "wants to" release their Ferrari kits, not that they don't.

When is the Ferrari-Mattel license expiring? IIRC, it should be reasonably soon. I just hope that it doesn't get extended, both for palstic kits' and 1/43 diecasts' sake.

I agree. And many of those late Italeri offerings, the 275s and the 250s, are just plain beautiful!

One thing that escapes me though - what about the 250 Berlinetta Lusso? Arguably one of the most beautiful Ferraris of all time, and no kit to speak of.

Think any mainstream kitmaker will ever do a pontoon-fendered Testa Rossa? Man, I sure HOPE so. In many peoples minds, that car IS Ferrari. I know for a fact Accurate Miniatures was planning one, but the idea died when Bob Johnson left AM.

Mattel is known in the US toy industry for strongarm business tactics. It would not surprise me at all if they were "rationing" licenses on behalf of Ferrari.

Agreed. Thank goodness it's not Fujimi (the thought of their 917 being a "typical" Fujimi frightens me), we stand a good chance that this will be a decent kit, as Hasegawa's other vintage stuff, like the Cosmo Sport and Toyota 2000 GT are very nice, accurate kits

And I have a personal Miura backup plan in the form of Esci and Imai kits waiting to be kitbashed into one good Miura. Esci for much of the guts, Imai for the beautiful body. Hasegawa hopefully has all of that covered. I've been a Miura addict ever since I was a 10 year old, peering out over the package shelf of our '69 Fury III at this outrageous orange car riding behind us that sat no higher than the trunklid, and had eyelashes! And the "Joe Cool" guy driving it, and his supermodel-looking sweetheart sitting next to him looked awfully happy for people stuck behind a Plymouth sedan in Boston traffic!

Maybe Hasegawa can do a Pantera next... At least I've got the only good one so far in the Tilt/Marui Cannonball series.

My holy grails are falling out of the sky! Maybe a Maranello will be coming in plastic!

Also, Gunze had a 250 SWB for a short time. I've only ever seen one of the Italeri kits, hope I can find one for myself that's affordable.

Scale Kraft of S. Africa has a very nice resin Lusso issued recently. Sure wish it was available in styrene in greater #'s, but I'm working on some projects w/Guido these days supplying him some older obscure models to make castings from so I'm getting some of his resin pieces in trade (you should see his latest Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B LeMans, what a neat/weird car), and the Lusso is high on the list of what I'll be getting.

I understand the licensing must be the main obstacle on the path for new Ferrari kits, but what's the reason for Tamiya (or even Revell of Germany!) to miss Porsche 996 turbo? I think that's one of the missing modern icons too along with the 550/575 Maranello. It's hard to believe that the sports car kits really sell so badly that it isn't profitable to manufacture such an important car as a kit.

Lusso is available in both resin and metal.
There is an absolutely beautiful curbside kit of Lusso by Scale Kraft, and there is also even more impressive full-engine all-metal kit of Lusso by Small Wheels/Western Models. Both are expensive and rare.

Hiro recently made a pontoon fendered TR (I built one about 2 months ago, its wonderful, but $200), Renaissance makes 57TR in 3 versions, its curbside, $100, but relatively accurate and detailed.
