Wax over decals?

I was wondering if it would be alright to apply wax over decals. I have my PIAA Accord (White Version) now, and would rather use wax than a clear coat which might yellow with time. I know that some waxes are slightly abrasive, so I am worried about it messing up the decals. Could I just rub the wax around and then off as gently as I can, then after I get them covered, go back with a good waxing? Any help would be greatly appriciated, and thanks in advance.

never heard that one. Generally you clear coat the car then compund it then wax it, the wax just put a shine to the body but does nothing to protect the decal.

good wax will not hurt decal... but wax will not protect them like a clear coat....

stay away from synthetic waxes. straight caranuba wax (meguiar's, mother's) or tamiya model wax are ok.

dont rub too much or you will hurt the paint... btw it's not working for clearcoat

I use Mothers Polish on my models, seems to work well with the decals. Honestly I wouldnt use the Meguires Cleaner wax, thats pretty strong stuff. The Cleaner wax is used to take a fine level of paint off your car to make way for better paint. The Mothers Polish is the Stage 2. Its not that strong and makes the paint shiney and deep.

Well, I think I'll go with a couple clear coats and then polish and wax. Can anyone recommend a clear coat that is compatible with Tamiya decals?? I'm looking for something that will not yellow, as it will be applied over white. (I can hear the recommendations for Tamiya's clear already coming )

I have heard of Tamiya clear damaging Tamiya decals.....not all, but some can be damaged by it.
Aside from that, the decals on race cars are not covered with clear coat, so they are slightly less shiny than the the actual paint finish.
I would think you would be better clear coating the white and then just waxing over the decals once they are applied.

Go to a hobby shop and buy The Treatment Wax, it is pure carnuba and is made for more models. The only problem with waxing is make sure all your decals are down flat because if an edge is sticking up and you are rubbing you can chip off part of the decal. Tamiya makes a good wax too for models.

Thanks for that little bit of information, Ray. I think I'll just get some tamiya clear and use it over the tamiya white, then put the decals over that. Then I'll get some carnuba wax or tamiya wax and just go over them lightly, then wipe it off. Should work pretty well. Thanks for the help and recommendations

Testor Clear.. it's better than Tamiya one ! and cost like 2$ at Wall mart
