Re: 1/8 Jaguar C Type

Hi Roy,

Must be something in the water in this part of the UK! An impressive project - I don't have the confidence to paint my models as I go along, preferring to have the option to make changes later if necessary.

What's it like structurally? I can see you've got the framework section in the engine bay, but what about through the cockpit and into the rear? If your fibreglass is anything like mine, I can't imagine it contributing too much to the rigidity!

All the best,

SB

Re: 1/8 Jaguar C Type

The body is resin bonded carbon Kevlar - a bit like fibre glass but thinner and extremely strong and rigid.
The front frame goes back into the body by only an inch or so, so the floor pan underneath is a sheet of carbon fibre screwed into the sills.
Inner body framing etc is brass tube and ally sheet, and assorted resin castings.
All the rear inner body is sheet ally, sheet plasticard and brass section, bonded using glass mat and resin or Araldite. Rear axle is steel through a resin differential with metal suspension parts.
The actual 'whole' is very rigid and strong, but not particularly heavy.
This is my first 'scratch' project, so it's a huge learning curve.
I'm already working on the beginnings of a short nose D Type next.....

All fun and games!

Roy.

Re: 1/8 Jaguar C Type

Many thanks you guys.

I managed to get a set of the original factory drawings of the car and had them scaled and printed out to 1/8.

All the main stuff was built from there, with hundreds of pictures for reference and details.
I also used several Jaguar books.

Roy.
