my camaro 89 rs

i have 2 issues with my 89 camero the first one is
some times if im seating at a stop light it will just die out but it will restatrt right away

the second is if i have been driving it for a while and and i turn the car off and its been setting for a few minits say like 30 i got out to start it and i turn the key nothing happens no sound no clicking the lights and all the gauges and the radio works but nothing happens unless i let it set longer then it will start right up and run perfect except for the stalling out some times at stop light can any one help me out here any suggestons thanks

Start simple, I would change your fuel filter to start. If it keeps happening check the fuel pressure at the rails.

The second part is probably your vats (vehicle anti theft system), the chip in the key.

You should be able to take an ohm meter and check the resistance of the chip.

Sounds like two seperate problems.....VATS will NOT cause a stall at a redlight.......possibly an IAC problem.....

No start could be a Vats problem.....one thing to do, when it won't crank, release the key to the "on" position, and look at the SECURITY light.....if it stays on, then you definitely have a VATS problem.....if it isn't on, it could be the starter enable relay circuit, or a bad starter.....

If the SECURITY light is on(should go out after 5 seconds with the key on), the usual culprit is the wire(s) to the lock cylinder......remove the driver's side hush panel......look at the steering column......coming down the column you will see an orange sheathed harness with two white wires, going to a black connector.....take an ohm reading of the key(two contacts on each side)......disconnect the black connnector and attach the ohm meter to the harness going up the column.....insert the key.....should get the same reading.......now rotate the key to the crank position and back to off several times..........the reading should be constant.....if it goes "OL" while rotating the key, you have a lock cylinder problem with one or both of the wires.....lock cylinder has to be replaced or you attach a resistor with the same resistance of the key to the opposite side of the black connector(not the side going up the column)..........
