I have a 1985 Jetta GL with the 1.8L engine, 5 speed manual. first off, recently, it started popping out of reverse before i even let off the clutch all the way. i tried holding it into reverse, but it jerks violently the entire time you're reversing. my brother in law says it might be the clutch, but wouldn't it do the same with all gears if it was the clutch? any help? also i have been having another problem. the other day it started ticking when the car was in motion, but not being pushed forward by the motor. (if i let off the gas, push the clutch, or take it out of gear) it's coming from either the axles or the transmission.. the boot on one of the cv axles isn't properly in place, but i'm not sure what exact thing would be making this noise. would it be bearings? i'm far from being a mechanic, so please give detailed explanation of what you think might be going on

Re: 85 jetta gl: clutch, linkages, or transmission?
I FORGOT TO ADD the ticking speed is directly proportionate to the speed of the car is moving. (the faster the car is going the faster it ticks)
