94 Buick PA Cruise Control Problem

I have a 1994 Park Avenue Ultra and the cruise control just stopped working. I will turn it on and the light comes on for a second or two then goes out. After this the crusie light will not come back on until I restart the car, but again no cruise. Any ideas?

Re: 94 Buick PA Cruise Control Problem

Because the light won't come back on until you restart the car, it sounds like a computer issue. Probably not the cruise control lever, certainly not the vacuum-driven servo. However, I would check the PCM (computer) for DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes) - you need a scanner for this. Certain faults can trigger the cruise control to disengage until the computer is rebooted (restarting the car). Also, certain DTCs won't necessarily activate the "service engine soon" light.

So, I would check the PCM for DTC codes, and if no codes, you probably need a new computer. Unless there's another key component to the cruise control system that I'm not aware of.

I had the exact same problem. I replaced the Cruise Control Release Switch. Now my cruise works. It is located under the dash next to brake light switch. About $14-$15 @ Rockauto.

I had exactly the same problem with the indicators. I picked up for $10 a PCM from the yard fixed it. It's not a bad swap out either but under the toe kick area of the front passenger. A prom swap if you buy a reconditioned.
Love to cruise.

Re: 94 Buick PA Cruise Control Problem

When my PCM went out for the first time, I mentioned the cruise control was doing this same thing. The mechanic scanning it said if the "Check Engine" light was on, the cruise control would drop out as a protective measure.

BTW, that PCM would set the CE light but it didn't store any codes, which indicated a bad memory (and who knows what else) inside the PCM. He pointed me to the one place in town that sold rebuilts back then so I slipped him an extra $20 since he had saved me hundreds
