1992 Buick Cruise Control works intermittent?

When I have the cruise control on and make a right hand turn it get's knocked off usually but not everytime. Sometimes if I hit a bump in the road it will happen. I can reset it and it's fine. Has not done this with left hand turns. This can happen at any speed i set the cruise at. Any idea what I might look for?

Dosen't make a difference if I tap around the crusie control switch or use the turn signal with cruise on. I mean it dosen't kick out when i mess with it inside the car.
How do I trace the wiring? Do I have to pull the steering wheel? How do I fix this? Pics would be helpful. I luv my Roadmaster Estate Wagon.

I belong to another forum an have seen them post on there for this same thing look at the light bulb on the rt side you could have a bad one the filment could touch the other one thinking brake light was on shut off cruise in a nut shell

I have a friend who was having the same problem with his cruise control on a 1994 Olds 98. His cruise didn't work at all. Found out the third brake light was burned out. Thats the brake light in the back window. After replacing the bulb the cruise did work but not all the time.

Next thing I did was replace the brake light switch under the dash that works off the brake pedal. Now his cruise works just fine.

I opened up the old brake light switch to inspect it. Found out it has three contact points inside. The first set of contact points were pitted very bad. Just like the contact points on older car ignitions would do where you could just file them down or just replace them. Us old guys remember those.

When replacing the brake light switch unplug the two sets of wires and pull back on the switch firmly. It should come out of the mounting hole. Push the new switch firmly back into the mounting hold to reinstall it. The plunger on the end of switch must make firm contact with the brake pedal mount so brakes lights will work when the pedal in pressed.

Part costs anywhere from $8.00 to $15.00. I found the cheaper one is the same switch as the expensive one except different brand name on the box.

How about on a '93 that has had intermittent cruise control since the car was new? If you bump the lever or attempt to reset the cruise, more often than not cruise goes "off." Resetting is very intermittent.

Just to let you know I found the problem with the cruise control was the connection with the third stop lamp on the rear door window. I had to put a resistor between wires located in rear fender on the drivers side.
Hasen't kicked off again.

Thanks for the update to the issue ! For the record, I had an issue with my 1997 Chevrolet Venture van where the cruise stopped working, It turned out to be a burned out "board" which is the housing in the rear of the van that contains the bulbs for the stop lamps and taillights. Water gets in and corrodes the contacts and causes a host of problems. This is a known issue with these vans and when someone reports their cruise stops working suddenly, they are told to check their rear lights. This goes to show how certain systems' issues can affect others and can help in diagnosing the problem. (Issue with rear lights = possible issue with cruise control) Years ago I remember if your rear taillights weren't working, then you had no dash lights, kind of a "safety warning notification".

The problem on my '93 is almost certainly in the area of the turn signal lever/cruise control switch. If I tap on or bump the lever it often loses the cruise setting. If I don't set or reset the cruise button in a certain, careful way, cruise will not switch on. I've wiggled the exposed wires at the base of the lever and could not cause the problem. Tapping on the lever or cruise button will cause the problem.
