Ac compressor runs then stops altogether?
Hey guys. I did a 134a conversion on my '93 s10 Blazer last summer. It ran fine for a day then quit. I assumed the refrigerent just leaked out and never got around to dealing with it. Today i wanted to put some dye in today but I ended up recovering a near full charge so I turned out it wasn't a charge issue. I have access to a AC machine at a dealership. The AC ran when I was charging it and for about a minute afterwards then the compressor stopped for good. I shut the car off started it after a few minutes, compressor ran for a minute and then stopped for good again. I am having a nagging feeling of a clog in the oriface tube, but also not sure I shouldn't be looking into a pressure switch as well. Any thoughts ones the issue?

Re: Ac compressor runs then stops altogether?
When it stops- tap on the clutch- see if it pulls in-- the air gap may be too wide and the magnetic force can't pull it in ince it warms up. Seen it several times.

Re: Ac compressor runs then stops altogether?
Thanks for the reply. I was tapping on the clutch a bit but it made no difference. I think I'm going to have to get a pressure reading on it and check for a clog.

Re: Ac compressor runs then stops altogether?
Easy fix....just a bad low pressure switch.

Re: Ac compressor runs then stops altogether?
I agree......monitor the pressure readings(hi and lo) while it runs....if ok, and it shuts off, it's usually the pressure cycling switch on the accumulator....give it a light tap and see if the compressor starts.....if it doesn't, remove harness and jumper it while watching the lowside pressure....if it runs ok, and pressure is around 30 psi or above, replace the switch.....if pressure is getting down to 25 or below, the switch is cutting out to prevent a freeze up....
