Key won't turn in ignition

Hey everybody. I've done some searching but I can't find anything. Perhaps somebody here can lend a hand.

The ignition in my 93 Isuzu Amigo isn't turning past lock. The key itself is not stuck inside the ignition but I cannot turn it no matter how hard I try. I know the cylinder will need to be replaced, so does anybody know how to remove a locked ignition cylinder, or how to unlock it so we can at least get it home?

I have tried moving the wheel back and forth while trying to turn, but nothing happens. I have also tried sticking a paperclip into the small hole next to the hey hole, and again nothing happened. Last time I had this problem, sticking a paperclip in that hole worked, (or at least it unlocked at the same time) so now I am out of ideas. I'm betting I'm going to have to drill it out, I just don't know how.

Also, the Amigo and Rodeo used the same ignition cylinder, and this forum is much more active, so I had to post here. Right now the car is parked at work where it will likely remain until I can fix this, so any help is much appreciated. Thanks guys.

Re: Key won't turn in ignition

jack up the front end and have a buddy rock the front wheels side to side and then see if you can turn the key.

Re: Key won't turn in ignition

Jacking up the front didn't work, but I did manage to drill out the ignition.

FOR FUTURE REFERENCE
Get yourself a drill and start drilling the ignition out. On the ends of the slot are the pins, the things that line up with the key to allow it to turn. You'll be drilling those out.

Next, you want to remove the long pin on the far side, this pin extends back on the same side of the cylinder as "START". Try to remove that pin.

After the pin is removed, you should try to get the mangled cylinder out. There is a tiny hole on the LOCK side of the cylinder. Get a very strong paperclip to push it in. I had to use an eyeglass repair screwdriver to hold it. With that held in, pull the cylinder out. It might take some muscle, but it will slide out if the pin is held.

Now to unlock the steering wheel. Use a screwdriver to spin the large rectangle receiver at the back of where the cylinder would have been.

Good luck, make sure you do it with enough daylight left in the day.

Re: Key won't turn in ignition

Couple tricks. Pull the gearshift toward your leag as you try to turn the key. Or take off the bottom stearinwheel cover and find the little plastic clip that works with the ignition manualy enguage it than regrease it.
