2001 Grand Prix-Key stuck in Ignition/Ignition won't turn

I used the Manual key release under the steering column to remove my ignition key because the ignition would sometimes stick and prevent me from turning it to the "off" position to remove the key. Now I can't start the car because the ignition doesn't turn past the first "on" position (the same position it would get stuck on when I would shut the car off)

Friend's Pontiac did the same thing, had it "fixed" a couple times, but never was fixed

Welcome to AF.

It sounds like the ignition switch key cylinder is bad.

When in PARK and foot on brake pedal and depressing the button on the top of the shifter do you hear the key release solenoid clunk in the steering column?

My friend had the same problem, if you tilt your steering wheel upwards, underneath is a small hole, if you can fit your finger in ther (or use a screwdriver) and screw around with the cylinder, it will release....well at least thats how she had to do it! lol
