Looking For Winter Tire / Steel Rim Size For 07 G6

Sorry if I don't have all the best data but I am asking this for someone else so please excuse the vagueness. Someone I know has an 07 G6 with low profile 17 inch rims. I think they are 55's but can't say for sure as I haven't seen them. They don't have much clearance as you would expect.
So it;s the usual story, the car is in Northern NY and as it is handles dangerously on snow / ice roads. The owners just want to get a cheap set of steel rims to mount some snow tires on it to survive the winter. So what size steel's will fit this car and a set of 60 or 70 profile snows? I want to know what I am looking for when I start shopping the junkyards. Thanks.

Why not just purchase winter tires and mount them on the existing wheels? That would be cheaper and easier. The other option would be to purchase a set of OEM wheels from a wrecking yard and have the tires installed on them. You can find tires at tire-rack.com or tires-easy.com.

There are steel wheels available for this car at wrecking yards in the north east. Try searching car-part.com and it will tell you what steel wheels will fit. Just remember you need the TPS monitors along with the wheels.

Yea I know it';s sort of cheaper to get snows for the existing rims but that $60 bucks twice a year on top of the big price for those overpriced thin tires just adds to the misery and they are on the budget methodology due to financial constraints. It always works out cheaper to just have 2 sets of rims though in the long run. I guess what I am looking for is the regulars good old 195 /.6o or 70 type of steel rim solution that seems so hard today. I'll start shopping around next week and dredge up something. At least from the chart I see that the car takes 16 by 7 as well as the 17's. I just went through this mess with of all things my 95 Civic of all stupid cars in the world to have weird tires. That one being an EX by some stupidity needed Accord Rims which for another foolish reason were incredibly hard to find. When did cars get to be so damned foolish. It couldn't be $$$$$$$$ now could it

Re: Looking For Winter Tire / Steel Rim Size For 07 G6

I hope this helps you, I have a 2007 G6 that came with 225/50/17 alloy rims, you can go to a 16 inch steel rim and it will fit, I am running 215/60/16 firestone winterforce on 16 inch steel rims for winter, fit no problem. I got a package deal from tirerack for $650 shipped, 4 wheels and tires, was cheaper than buying 4 17 inch winter tires and having them mounted to the factory rims.
