Re: Most paid for a McLaren model

Thanks for the advice, the pictures and information help, I'll keep them for future reference. For those prices I'm always worried about buying one. It's a shame we have people around who want to rip you off with fakes. I think if I ever buy one it will be from someone trustworthy like Erik said. Thanks again!!

The difficulty has been to get the correct kind of West decals to replace the East decals and many times on those fakes the decals aren't the correct size or they have wrong colors as the correct ones have light golden and red "stripes" behind the text but in some of the fakes the golden stripe is grey like on the West McLaren Mercedes Formula One cars.

Another failure has typically been that the front West decal, even if correct size and colors, has been missing the "McLaren" badge in the middle of the decal.

The outer carton in the authentic one does not "have" the catalogue number (530 154308) but has a green tape (almost similar color as the carton) on the place of the number. The rumors are that the correct box would be the Jacadi #7 box (530 154307) if the tape is removed. This is because the models where promotional items that were given away and not sold. There are also rumors about the quantity those promo models were made from around 200 to even 1000. Normally those old Minichamps GTRs were made around 1000-1500 each, but as the West promo model is very similar to the East #8, the quantity may have been lower than the usual as they most probably were done in a same batch of that 1000-1500 altogether.

Current values of an authentic mint model in a mint original package are perhaps around 700-800 usd, depending also on the seller's credibility. Last authentic one in such a condition I've seen on eBay few years ago went for around 650 usd. After that there has been only few authentic ones, but not in a mint condition and typically without the correct packaging. Those have been going for around 250-500 usd.

Here are some pictures of the real one with the box (not mine as I am not that particular fan of this model for such values it holds and instead prefer other more accurate models):

And for comparison, East #8 (not my photos):

Hope this helps you to find what you're looking for!
The first photograph is interesting, as there's a real contrast between the green sticker (covering the barcode) and the box colour.

I have more than one of these models, and they have a darker sticker (covering the barcode) more akin to the green box colour.

Furthermore, I recall that the donor boxes were from a never-issued Jacadi #43 model, though I haven't peeled any of my stickers to confirm this.

I'll try and host some photos on a photo hosting site and link them on this thread.

Good luck with your search for an original Mike !

Re: Most paid for a McLaren model

I have to thank Erik, Doc GTR and Bentleyboyz for all the great detail you have provided on this model including the images. This will all be very helpful for me down the road. BentleyBoyz, if you get a chance for that further detail I'd appreciate it.

Merry Christmas Everyone!!

Re: Most paid for a McLaren model

I think the most I paid for a model was £395 for the LARK Autobarn twin-set and FINA Autobarn Twin Set. The most I've paid for one model was £300 for the Yellow original 1/12 F1 bought as a Wedding Present to myself 6 1/2 years ago, 2 days before my wedding

Re: Most paid for a McLaren model

Hello!

This is my first post here, even though I have been following this forum for quite a while now. I just haven't been able to contribute anything yet, mainly because even though the F1 is my favourite car (it seems I'm not the only one?), I haven't really come across it in RL, other than in computer games...

Last weekend, however, I went to Berlin and visited the Meilenwerk garage. Having known no F1's were supposed to be there, I was quite pleasently surprised when I saw a model of it! (two actually)

I hope this thread is OK for showing the pictures of it, since the price of the model (even for that kind of a "toy car") is quite high, I think - 4150€. It doesn't say what scale it is, but I would say it's 1/12 or so.

Mind that I'm not a photographer and I was using an average camera and even my phone for some pics... Also, the model was in a glass case inside a glass showcase, thats why all the annoying glares and such.

PS: How do you put images right INTO the post? I thought [IMG] does that?

Yes - wrapping your image URL with will embed the photos in your post like so:

With Flickr you have to navigate to this page to pull the URL from for remote hosting.

The F1 LM is the 1/8th scale from Amalgam Models. If the GTR was smaller then it could be 1/12th or even 1/18th. It is hard to tell scale from that photograph.

Congrats on getting to see an F1 at least in scale - hopefully you find the real thing someday soon as well. You should try to get in to the BMW Classics Collection museum in Munich and see three F1s all at one time.

Also welcome to the forum of F1 nuts.

Re: Most paid for a McLaren model

Thanks Peloton. I think all the models displayed were of the same scale (and same price), so it is likely that GTR is also 1/8 then. This was really the best pic I could get...

Offtopic: If you click the link below, you can see the rest of my trip to the garage. There are some fine cars there including 458, enzo, eb110, veyron, countach, diablo GT, miura, xj220, shelby, mustangs and then some!

Re: Most paid for a McLaren model

Welcome to the Forum Royle. If you are a Mclaren fan it is the best place to be
Your trip to the museum looked like a great day out.The large GTR models are amazing when you see the detail involved, like headphones inside etc, like the real GTR/LM would have
The models are our daily reminder of liverys that may never be seen again on the actual cars. I have models of all the shortail gtr's ,apart from the Lanzante car, which i never tire of looking at.
The most i paid for one was £350 for a signed1:43 Davidoff gtr,in my pre e-bay days. Seems crazy now as i have seen them go for lots less. I spent years looking for it!
I hope you see some real Mclarens in the future. I was speaking to an Austrailian chap at Goodwood Festival of Speed last year who was looking at his first GTR! I told him about the forum, for the best info on future Mclaren appearances

Re: Most paid for a McLaren model

I've never seen an F1 die cast computer mouse. Does anybody have idea: is it worth to be manufactured? It could have all details, even interior. Not sure about the market, because the price could be high.

Re: Most paid for a McLaren model

Hi guys!

What do you make of this? http://www.trademe.co.nz/toys-models...-437634253.htm
EDIT: Don't worry: http://www.diecastxchange.com/forum1...-prototype-lm/
Quote:
Put simply, if there were an award for “Worst Diecast Model Ever”, this model would certainly get a nomination for it.
And a separate question - how rare are models of the longtail GTs (not GTRs)?

Thanks
