I paid $375 USD for my Dk Metallic Blue 1/12th scale F1 just like that one. I guess you could say that I kind of got a deal on it, but I think that the blue is one of the least desirable colors of the 1/12ths so that is probably why. That price I paid certainly won't be any kind of record among the members here, I can guarantee you that. Thorst probably has everyone beat for total dollars invested, but he might not have the record for the highest price paid. Some of the other more prominent F1 diecast collectors are infrequent participants here so you might not get too many responses unfortuantely.
The other colors for that 1/12th scale are Green, Dk Silver, Silver, (all of which I'd love to have) this red being offered on Ebay, and finally a bright yellow. The Dk Silver ones seem to fetch the highest prices followed closely by regular silver, then yellow, then red, then green, then my blue. I think the highest selling price I have seen was close to $1200 USD for one which I thought was fairly outrageous. I used to want one of each color, but that would be a little difficult to justify when instead I could buy a weekend car (a real one, like a used Miata) for the price of what the entire set would run me. ![]() Here's a photo that Thorst sent me of a complete set, plus one additional silver one a while back. They do make a nice group when they're all lined up together like this: ![]() I'm happy with my blue one, but I might try to swap it out with a green one at some point and then resell the blue to make some of my money back. There are two reasons I'm not keen on the blue version. First, the interior seats are painted green (as are the ones in the green and yellow exteriors) and I think that kind of clashes with the blue. Also, unfortunately the blue exterior color is extremely dark and you really have to get it out in the sunlight to pick up the color. It's unfortunate that they went with such a dark blue on the exterior, as most of my favorite F1s have been lighter, more vibrant shades of blue. If you watch the auctions for some of the smaller 1/43rd scale F1s from Minichamps, you'll see that it's not uncommon for some of them to sell for several hundred dollars as well. There is one WEST promotional car that can easily eclipse $1000 every time one is listed. There's also the short tailed LARK GTR that seems to command high prices, as well as the short tailed Davidoff GTR. BTW: Here's a few shots of my blue one so you can get a better idea of the detail and also the comments I made in regards to the colors. These may be pricey items, but I really think every true McLaren fanatic should save their pennies for one. Clickable thumbnails... >8^) ER Last edited by Peloton25; 04-16-2010 at 07:44 PM. |

You guys would be amazed to see just how much someone is willing to pay for these models.
Yup Peloton, I think you're right about that statement of mine collection beeing the most invested total, but I can assure you I don't have the record price for one item! I've seen the 1:12 silver go for $1700 last year on Ebay. It was the same version as the one in the displaycase on the pic above. It has a red driver seat and I've only seen it offered 2 times through the years. One of the was broken. The original has just a plain grey seat with some markings. And it is the plain silver and not the dark version that's most valuable. I have also seen the 1/43 WEST fetch 1600 so that's even higher. This is mostly because most collectores buys this scale and it was only offered in a promoversion. I do have some models I think is even more valuable to the right buyer, I alsohave some fairly awesome customs that has been made especially for me. |

Wow, the detail on the 1/12 model is truly amazing. Now if only I were willing to dish out the money to get one.

Yeah it truly is amazing for a diecast model from nearly a decade ago. Those holes you see in the brake rotor are actually drilled too, not just black dots on the rotors. The tread on the tires is exact, as are nearly all the markings. They have really done an amazing job recreating the car in miniature.
Hey Thorst - what would keep someone from cracking open a silver one and popping in the red seat from a green one? Are the seats actually different? >8^) ER |

i spent an insane amount on a 1:12th on ebay. Sellers that seem geniune and accept paypal are a little hard to come by.
And then the import tax... Still it was worth it, fantastic dark green 1:12 in mint condition. Dont seem to be as many 1:12's for sale these days, so the value is probably increasing too

Well to answer your question Peloton I would have to check if the seats actually are different. But swapping the to seats would be close to impossible without leaving any marks on the model that shows it has been opened and fixed.
These models are easy to open, but not easy to open without leaving any trace. The seats are both glued and melted in place, so it's really easy to see if it's been tempered with. There is also a couple of more things to see after if you wish to check if your car has ever been fixed or repaired. I belive the silver with the red seat is a "2nd generation" with some of them installed with the wrong seat from the factory. They are well known and very popular among 1:12 collectors as they for some reason are very rare to come by. |

Since erik asked me to give a reply on this thread, here we go
Well the highest amount i gave for a mclaren was 325 each for my 1/12's. I had some luck with my yellow one and gave 280 for it. Some weeks ago i could obtain a brandnew davidoff for around 250 on a swapmeet. I sold it because i already had it in my collection. I made 150 profit on it. Probably most i spend was on my 1/24 studio27 kits. Payd around 140 for the kit. A professional builder asked me 180 to build it: Talking about the handbuilts, i have most of AutoBarn releases. Most of them are around 220US$ each. Boxes are part of the ABSS and were around 400US$ each. I payd 350US$ for the dakaryellow roadcar because it was a special delivery for a customer. It is on an acrylic-leather base and limited to 25pcs One of my favorites is the nick masson car this is also a new release and very popular: A white one is also on its way This black one is also custom build (only 1) by Rosso I payd 199 |

For my minichamps 1/43 models i payd normal prices. Some were only 10 (my red roadcar) and 20 (tag heuer) others were 110 (black loctite).
But most of them were normal prices in the range 40-80 |

You surely have a nice collection of 1/43' s there!
I think youre Minichamps collection is far cooler than those Autobarn models which I don't understand why people care about. They are not particulary well made for the price of 200 Euro+! I can build better models myself if it's detail and finish that counts. If you really paid no more than $325 for youre 1:12 silver (if you have one) you made a great deal there. That all black 1/43 car has at least one more example in the world, it has been offered several times on Ebay Italy for 165Euros, but never sold at that price. Well I'm glad to see I'm not the only crazy guy in this world spending insane $ ammounts on McLaren models

Here's one that is about to end in a few days, but it's already past $500, meaning that I'm put off from buying it. I really do want one, but spending that amount of money is, how shall I say, outrageous.

Yeah and the title of "Dark Silver" but the description of "Red" should put you off of it regardless.

Well i was able to find a silver one in belgium for 350 but got 10% discount. Nobody bought these here in belgium, belgium is good for 1/18 models. Not for 1/12 and 1/43.
I also bought 2 blue ones this year for 300 each. They were for years in this guy's modelshop. Strange |

I wouldn't buy it either way. Thanks for the warning. I saw the same exact description for an actual Red one he had up. And someone bid on that and won. Sucks for them I guess.
