Re: My 1000th post----- The whereabouts of GTR 04R?

Fantastic details, thanks to everyone!!!!
So what is the truth now then?
Which is #04R and which is #14R?
Or is #14R then #04R?!
Or...

I'm sorry but my English isn't as good I wanted, so have to ask this kind of basic question to understand 100% right, after reading carefully couple of times all your post trought.
Sorry.

Hi Sami,

As we have now gathered the pieces of evidence it should be clear that:

1) this is 04R last seen at F1 20th Anniversary gathering @ MTC

and

2) this is 14R as seen recently by Tom Hartley

Hope this clears it up for you!

Re: My 1000th post----- The whereabouts of GTR 04R?

OK, thanks DOC again.!
So that Woking's meeting was first and last time sofar when #04R has been seen on public?!

And those images from 1996 Japan GT, did I understood right; #04R were seen in Japan that year or did I miss something again?
After #14R crash, was it #04R which were seen LARK livery #61 rest of the season?
This is correct?

To my knowledge it was the first time it was shown to public or the invited guests and journalists at that gathering. Before that there were only the photos of it published in the McLaren Cars book.

Yes, 04R stood in for the damaged 14R in the last JGTC 1996 race at Mine. The images in that article Bucciali has scanned are taken after that last race and show 04R in the LARK #61 livery.

Re: My 1000th post----- The whereabouts of GTR 04R?

Received some very exciting news today - GTR #04R is set to become less obscure in the very near future. I am told that one of the McLaren Automotive dealers in the Far East have requested it as their showroom display car.

AWESOME!

Not sure on exactly where it will be located or when it will arrive just yet, but I assume when it appears it won't be too long before images begin to surface. I was told they had it in the Formula One workshop at the MTC the other day for some final prep and when it was fired up it drew a pretty good crowd, including the boss, Martin Whitmarsh. Quite a different sound than they are used to with the current F1 2.4L V8s - must have been fantastic!

If only someone there had a video camera...

One quiz for you and the guys when pictures emerge of GTR04 is: apart from the sponsorship removal what is the other difference at the front of the car to when it ran in the All Japan Championship in 96
First one to guess right gets an all expense paid trip to the MTC in the UK.

PS: I might be kidding about the prize.

Re: My 1000th post----- The whereabouts of GTR 04R?

The front air intake [where, if it were converted to go on the road, the number plate would be] is now a lot smaller

INCMP [it will be cheaper than most, as I am only up the road, so the expenses wouldn't be all that )

ETA the indicators are different - orange in-board in Japan, now out-board in the big Woking Meet pics

Re: My 1000th post----- The whereabouts of GTR 04R?

Why did they remove the sponsorship decals?

I mean, advertising cigarettes is banned but it's a privately owned car so why bother?

Will be great to see it but it looks silly with just a white panel where LARK should be.

Re: My 1000th post----- The whereabouts of GTR 04R?

Could have something to do with their continued association with Formula One and not wanting to give the rule makers any reason to look at them cross. Who knows...

I agree though - history is history and the cars should be displayed as they were run. Could you imagine seeing a 'John Player Special' sponsored Lotus without those decals?

I am glad that Andy's LARK car has preserved the livery - quite surprising too, it has made it through at least 3 owners without being resprayed Orange.

Very interesting. Good that the car gets attention what it should have. Let's follow this thing with high interest!
