Question 2004 jeep liberty weird noise

while driving or sitting i hear this noise and the best way to describe it is like when they scan and item at the store and it has the security strip in it so if doesnt get scanned it sets off the alarm when you leave..i dont know how else to describe it just sounds like the noise it makes when they pass that item over what ever it is at the registor and it sounds like it might be under the dash....any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated..
