Was about to jump my car- but noticed something strange.
My car battery went dead over night and I had my friend come over to help me jump it but I noticed something strange on my battery that made me wary of putting an electrical current through it.
Does anyone have any insight into what this is? Is my car OK to jump? 2 pictures attached http://img577.imageshack.us/img577/7356/1123111308a.jpg http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/8683/1123111308.jpg |

Re: Was about to jump my car- but noticed something strange.
Are you referring to the second wire, with the yellow terminal on it?
This looks like a home made repair, somewhat half-a$$ed, but not all that strange. Chances are someone added an aftermarket accessory, like a stereo amp, alarm, foglights etc and ran a seperate 10 gauge wire to the positive terminal to power it. Given the dirt on it, it looks pretty old, but as it looks undamaged and unmoved, it probably is not the sole cause of your dead battery. It would be nice to remove the yellow terminal, clean the wire, and install a soldered-on ring terminal, then attach it alongside the red wire, to the proper bolt on the battery terminal. |
