06 5.9 Cummins
I am posting for a friend. He has a 06 5.9 cummins turbo diesel 3500 4x4, picked up cheap because it's knocking. He has found another engine that has a standard transmission on it, his is automatic. Question is, will the automatic bolt up to the engine that has a standard transmission. He has been told the blocks are different, thanks for any help.

Re: 06 5.9 Cummins
Yeah there different, you cant just convert one to the other, not without a lot of effort and money. Your better off just getting the right engine.

Re: 06 5.9 Cummins
You might check with an engine company like Jasper for a rebuilt engine.

Re: 06 5.9 Cummins
Likely too late for the OP, but I'd get a confirmation on that "knock" before pulling engines. The Cummins rarely give that type of problem within the lifespan of the vehicle, so I'd look at sources of diesel knock, and injection timing would be my first check, followed by an injector pop test.
