Re: Manually shut off torque converter?

My wife and I have noticed (could just be us) that the problem seems slightly more prevalent the hotter it is outside. When it's cooler it doesn't seem as bad. Does that point to anything?

Hmm... Problem xhanges with weather?

I would inspect MAF, IAT and ECT. If any of these is bad can cause problems in the fuel mixture.

Ignition problems could vary with temperatures too (coils, wires and spark plugs).

Oscar.

Re: Manually shut off torque converter?

Interesting turn of events today. Was on my way home from work when I lost ALL gears. No matter where the gear selector was (aside from P), the car behaved as if it was in N. Had it towed to the tranny shop and we'll see what they say. Hmmm.....

Re: Manually shut off torque converter?

Another interesting development. The tranny shop called and a needle bearing inside the trans exploded and clogged the filter. They're doing an entirely new rebuild with a new torque converter. I guess this will rule out the trans if the problem persists. haha

Re: Manually shut off torque converter?

Holy smokes Matt. That blows. I was going to suggest unplugging the MAF as my car bucked a lot when my first MAF went bad. (I say first cause I'm now on my 4th MAF and counting). LOL.

Otherwise Maxwedge is right, any mechanic with a scanner should be able to moniter current and history missfires on specific cylinders just to see if the problem is a miss.

And I got your question in my PM, sorry, I have been so damn busy lately. There is a setting you can get reset. I think its called TAPS, and acranym for something like trans adaptive shift.... something or other. Someone will have to correct me. Usually you only reset this if the trans is rebuilt and to my knowledge only a dealer tech II scanner has the capabilities to do the reset. Also resetting TAPS should in theory do nothing to the tune on your PCM. Whatever type of tune that may be

Hey, there he is! How you been man? Yeah, I feel ya - this year has been insane for us too. Hopefully things are going well for ya.

I'm really curious to see what happens tomorrow when I pick up the car. If all the probs are gone after a total rebuild I'll just laugh. If not, then I'm back to square one which will suck. Stay tuned....

Re: Manually shut off torque converter?

Well, looks like replacing the torque converter got rid of my "misfire!" Car runs fine now.
