98 Astro heater control connector. Missing piece?

Hi All. I have been lurking for a few days on this site, and I am hooked already.
Thanks for all the info, and I hope you can help me out on this issue. New to me 98 Astro Mach1 passenger van. Heater blower works only on second position... No high, no low no 3/4. I pulled the switch assembly out to check out some continuity etc, and the connector that goes to the back of the left side with 6 wires connects to.... well air. It snaps into a plastic mount and has a tab etc, but there are no contacts for it to mate with back there??? I assume there is something missing from this assembly, and I did go on ebay to see if I could buy a new switch in case mine was bad... This is from ebay, and I have noted a long (sort of like a computer memory stick) white plastic thing that my assembly is missing... What is it? Does it have electrical connectors, and will getting one solve my heater motor speed issues??/ Thanks for any help.
Pete

As I search thru the site I came up with a common problem... Heater motor resistor. Pulled that sucker out and the red wire was pretty fried and cruddy... Cleaned it up a bit and now I have 2 speeds for my heater! I am happy enough with this, so now I will search to see what the P.O. did to all the vacuum lines for the controls, as there is no vacuum at all and I see a couple of cut lines in the engine compartment over near the AC drier and the vacuum line "T". I still need to know if the connector I have is missing a piece as I suspect, and what this piece is/does. Thanks in advance... Back out in the 95 degree heat to tinker!
