missing piece 1984 jetta

We are working on a 1984 Jetta for a customer he decided to start doing work himself before bringing it in there is a piece missing on the bottom of the transmission in the middle looks like a bolt pin or maybe a spring loaded detent that goes straight up from the bottom it is a 5 speed standard can you tell me what it is and where I can get one Thanks!
