GM will be ordered to issue a recall when occupants get killed or injured.

this problem MAY BE what is going on here ....

so far you have not stated exactly ,what was checked and what was done / found .

shimming this should not be a problem ..who is going to do this ?
dealership won't !

is this all the brakes locking or one ? brake pads worn all evenly ?

this vehicle also has caliper sticking issues which could cause this..

the forum is used to inform, and help vehicle owners troubleshoot vehicle problems ...I don't like guessing ...

Re: 08 trailblazer brakes sticking

the issue is that we have no idea which part of the brakes is stick front or back. the dealership has check the calibers every time they have taken it there and have even replaced the rotors. they have no idea what it is. as for the pads i dont know. i would expect the dealer to find that. since its still under warr they arent touching them. they have taken it there 5 times. each time they check the calibers and clean everything and then its fine for 2-3 weeks. then it starts acting up again. my mother drives it to work which is about 10 miles round trip each day.

with the info we gave you . call the dealerships in your area. tell them the problem, ask if they have the fix . if not , call the local repair shops ask them if they have the fix.

you stated they found no problems , cleaned calipers maybe !

have them check the master cylinder. tell them to remove and inspect for being the incorrect size or possibly a seal defect causing the sticking in this part. ask your mother about the brake pedal..did it seem lower when the brakes locked up ?

since you have no clue on how to do these checks you must find a tech that can !

if you cannot get someone to repair this quickly dump that vehicle before she gets hurt ..

Re: 08 trailblazer brakes sticking

if it was your front brakes you would have pulling of the steering wheel. You have ice up there why not observe by seeing which wheels slide when your noticing the sticking.

Re: 08 trailblazer brakes sticking

the brakes only stick right off the line from a stop. it lasts maybe a second and then is fine. its never done i during normal driving. i've driven it before and it only did it to me once. there was no difference in the pedal. i will have to have them check the master cylinder next time it goes in. they are thinking of trading it in for a equinox because of the brakes and poor mpg.

If its under warranty I would call them to come pick up the TB and fix it. That right now you cant go anywhere with it. Then all of a sudden it starts working. Try this a few times till they fix it. Otherwise sounds like your master cylinder is sticking.

Not true, in NYS lemon only on for 24 months 18k miles, 4 ineffective reapirs would qualify for arbitration, with BBB. Used cars have different guidelines, some states do not have lemon laws.

Re: 08 trailblazer brakes sticking

I had a similar problem with my 07 TB. It was only the front brakes which would stick. (You could smell the brakes burning) In our case, they wouldn't release for quite some time. We took it to the dealership twice. The first time, they checked the calipers, etc and said they were fine. The second time was this past Saturday.

Both times, I tried to exlain that it must be something common to both brakes (two calipers going bad simultaneously? I don't think so.) I don't think they believed me either time.

I saw this thread over the weekend and sent it to the dealership. I don't know if it made any difference, but the mechanic talked to the GM Tech and they are replacing the brake booster and the master cylinder.

BIG Thanks to AutoF and everyone here! I'll keep my fingers crossed that this solves the problem.

Re: 08 trailblazer brakes sticking

thanks for your posting. welcome to the forum .

after a few days of operating this vehicle give a posting on these results of the repair.

many would benefit from your testing ..

It was reported the sticking master cylinder was the problem with the fleet of vehicles , the company mechanics serviced..

also GM has no idea what caused this ..the original poster has dumped the defective vehicle..that was what I would do with their situation.

good luck ..be safe !

Re: 08 trailblazer brakes sticking

I've had the trailblazer back from the shop for a little over a week now. So far, so good! Even though we went a few weeks between the first and second occurance of the problem, I am cautiously optomistic that replacing the brake booster and master cylinder have corrected the problem.

thanks for that feedback on this very important brake issue !

post back after a few more weeks with what you experienced.

must be poor Q.C. on that master cylinder part .

Re: 08 trailblazer brakes sticking

I sure hoped to find an answer here. Today my '08 TB LT 2WD with 27,000 miles did this. I applied a little brake and released the pedal at about 35MPH and it felt like the transmission has downshifted, and kept slowing down. I applied a little more brake and released and it slowed down more after the pedal had been released. As I came to a stop and released the pedal again, the vehicle was stopped right there and would not move. After about 5-8 seconds all brakes suddenly released and it was back to normal. With each application of more brake the brakes maintained that amount of braking, not increasing the braking power or decreasing the braking power, exactly as though I had held the pedal steady. There was no warning from the ABS lights and this felt steady and as though all wheels had brake applied. As I drove home to garage this thing it acted normally for the rest of the drive. Has there been any more info to the dealers about this? Mine is still under waranty until November.
