rustoleum primer problem

hi all,
new to the forum. have built a few kits using tamiya primer (can't find it anymore) with great results. i used rust-oleum primer for plastic to start a new kit. waited 24hr, wet sanded it with toothpast, had a great eggshell primer coat.

i sprayed two mist coats of tamiya TS26, pure white. came back to check on it, found horrible bubbling of the paint/primer layers. will have to strip this and redo.

anyone have this problem? any solutions?
would appreciate recs for best cheap primer that can be bought at a regular store that works well with tamiya TS spray cans.

thanks.

Don't use cheap primer is the best answer I can give you. Primer is very important as it's the basis for everything that follows. Plenty online shops are selling the Tamiya primer, you can mail order from most places..

Tamiya primer is not available in the US until they straighten out a labeling issue, and nobody ships spray cans from overseas anymore.

Rustoleum is nasty primer. Don't think "cheap" with primer. Think "good". If you paid for Tamiya primer, then don't go looking for the cheapest primer out there to replace it.

Duplicolor sandable primer, or Plastikote if you can find it, are acceptable. A friend recently shot Testors gray lacquer primer and then their color over it, and the color cracked. So forget Testors primer.

If you can mailorder Mr. Color 1000 spray primer, you will like it. Mr. Color 1000 is available in jars, and can be airbrushed, and it is smoother than Tamiya primer. That's what I'll be using.

Re: rustoleum primer problem

Thanks a lot for saving my butt. I was just staring at Rustoleum primer at Walmart the other day. I am also running low on Tamiya primers. Has anyone tried Alclad II gray or white primers? How are these compared to Tamiya's?
