Springs are way easy, Maybe a 5.
You need the basic sockets, etc. But the most important thing is the spring compressor. You can rent those at most parts stores. |

Springs
I really hope your not serious about using a belt to hold the spring. Doinf springs is easy, all common sense..if you have some than shouldn't be a problem. Just be careful and use a spring compressor. Oh and watch out that the back lower control arm bolts are seized into the bushing. If you encouter that problem that you probally are goin to want to take it to a shop so they can cut the bolt off and press new ones in.

Dude i hope you are kidding about the belt on the springs, go and rent a spring compressor from your local parts store, it could save you alot of physical pain if that belt breaks, otherwise springs are easy to do.Might wanna do struts while your in there if ya can afford it...

belt
i would not suggest the belt. but go to the local part store and rent one, like eveyone else said. i give it a 5 on a 1-10. and changing your struts now would save you the hasle later. plus you'll have a better ride.

I was cringing just reading that post about using a belt omg! It's scary enough with spring compressors! If you have the right tools and a rubber hammer...and a second person there to help it's easy....about a 6-8. :bandit:

yeah the only major common shit is the rear bolts where the strut bolts to the control arm. If they come loose its all good. if not its a bitch. Have an impact around and something that penetrates and loosens like CRC or something. If youre not doing struts youll regret it but you can take the rear springs out without taking that pain in the ass bolt loose. I lowered my CRX when I was 16 and had never done anything like that before. It took me 3 hours with hand tools. The next 4Gen I did took me an hour and a half.

Its like 2/10, extremely easy. Get yourself a MAPP Gas Torch from Home Depot and heat those bolts up nice and then spray them with some PB Blaster. I broke my LCA bolts off to. However after learning the torch trick I have never broken a bolt, and it makes bolts come out easy.

Springs
I've got it down to a science and don't even need to use a compressor. I relieve the pressure on the springs before they even come off the car. I lowered like 8 cars last summer and after like the first 4 i figured out ways to do them faster without a spring compressor. I also used a lift and air tools.

yeah i was gonna say, you dont need a spring compressor to take the springs off and replace them. all you have to do is this:
1. remove the center nut on the top of the strut (the one with the allen wrench hole in the bolt) 2. remove the lower strut bolt. 3. stand on the hub to get it to come loose and pull the strut out 4. reverse to install when i put my coilovers in only one rear LCA bolt broke off and it was a sumbitch to drill out (burnt up 2 drill bits even with spraying them with oil ever 2 seconds) the good thing is, once you replace the bolts or break them loose in the rare event that they dont break off, you'll never have to worry about it again. good luck |

well about 3 weeks ago i put a new stage 2 clutch in her...and went through the top end...(bought the car at a local auction for 1850) body is straight 1 small door ding thats it..interior is good all it had was a blown clutch and some idiot at the auction leaned on the radiator and broke it (it was brand new) so i put another new one in it..and a full tune up when i pulled the valve cover off i noticed the rockers were stamped (so its been rebuilt) so didnt have much to worry about the compression was 150 all around..car has 177XXX on it but pulls strong and runs great..so im assuming it was fully rebuilt...it has new axles and stuff like that...it came with 2000 in recipts so i think everything should be cosher...i know when we pulled the axels to drop the tranny out everything came off pretty damn easy...sooo lets hope...
thanks Ry
