I seem to be having problems putting my car into reverse. It feels like its in gear but when i go to lift the clutch and apply gas it grinds the gear sometime i have to take it out of gear and put in a few times before i can get it to go. Does anyone have the same problem and if so any idea whats causing it. Your opinions are appreciated.

Dont worry its not you its the car. I have already taken mine in to the dealership to see what was up. They said thats just how it is. If it happens just throw it into another gear and try again. Try 1st to 2nd then throw it into reverse. SHould work fine.

Happens to me at least once a week as well. I am tired of it! I am wondering if I should change the tranny fluid early, because of the grinding of that reverse gear?

would a short shifter fix this problem? I kno the short shifters clicks into place each time you shift without a short hesitation between each gear, unlike the factory clutches. Maybe that would guarantee the proper engagement of that reverse gear??!!

i don't think the shifter is the problem, it's the synchros of the gearbox that needs fixing

i have the same problem as well, if you pay attention closely, you can totally feel that it's not fully in gear.... so what you do is before you grind, put it back to neutral, step the clutch all the way in, and put it back in reverse.....if you feel it again, repeat the process again, it usually takes one or two times before it gets back in gear

I know what your talking about isn't completely normal, but alot of it is. They engineer the tranny so it won't just slip into reverse, it is supposed to be kinda difficult, same with 1st gear. The reason being you NEVER want to go into reverse while driving, so the harder it is to get in the better, the same kinda goes for 1st, you don't want to go into it unless youre going <10mph or youll mess some stuff up. So if it's hard to get in either of those gears, don't automatically assume that means the tranny is defective, more often than not its just difficult because its made to be difficult so you don't accidently screw something up

as far as i know, all cars don't really have synchrons for reverse. what i always do for the reverse is to put it in first gear first and then put it inot reverse
