1967 Chevrolet Corvette - Con Air
On a dutch forum, there is a movie theme contest. Everyone makes a model which is shown in a movie or tv-serie.
I didn't want to buy any new kits, so I searched my pile for some good models. After some research on internet I found the movie Con Air with Nicolas Cage. The movie contains a very nice 1967 Corvette convertible, so my decission was made ![]() This is the kit I use for it: ![]() ![]() ![]() And here are some screenshots. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The blue/silver color is already ordered, but I have no reaction so far, so I have to be patient. Meanwhile I can already start on the engine and chassis. I also want to ask if someone could make the numberplates on scale for me. It doesn't have to be decal it also can be printed on sharp photo paper. Off course I'll pay for it. Kris.

Re: 1967 Chevrolet Corvette - Con Air
I did some work on the Corvette already.
First I painted almost all chassis parts. Most of them now need some detail painting. The chassis was painted Revell Aqua Semigloss black. ![]() I also started on the engine. I painted it with a mix of Revell enamel orange/black. When it was dry, I painted the gearbox metallic grey by Tamiya. The intake manifold was painted silver with a wash of smoke, and the carburators are gold. The engine and gearbox also are clearcoated using Zero 2K Clear. ![]() ![]() ![]() Kris.

Re: 1967 Chevrolet Corvette - Con Air
Hi Iceracer1,
Looking good so far. I love that box art from Revell but cringe when seeing at what they did (in the film) to his car.. A very sad end if you ask me. One thing to mention here, I think your block colour is to light. Chevrolet engines of that time were a distinct shade of orangish-red like this photo of a 1967 Corvette 427 6V. ![]() The Testors Model Master Acryl line includes the correct shade of Chevrolet Engine Red (see here: http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/tes/tes...source=froogle) but I'm not sure if Revell's Aqua Line include it - they're not readily available were I live. HTH Cheers, Andrew |

Re: 1967 Chevrolet Corvette - Con Air
Hello Andrew,
I know about the color, I tryed some black trough the orange to get it a bit darker, but it's still a bit to light. I don't gonna change that anymore now. Thanks for the link, my local hobby shops also sells this paint so I'll buy some when I'm there. Kris.

Re: 1967 Chevrolet Corvette - Con Air
Today I finished the engine. I added some spark plug wiring on it, and placed the other engine parts on it.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now I'll move on to the chassis. Kris.

Re: 1967 Chevrolet Corvette - Con Air
Today I started with the wheels. I gave them a black was to paint the inner spokes black, and create more dept.
I also added some red in the centercaps, and added the red trim on the tyres. ![]() I also painted the firewall. Nothing special, just some details painted. ![]() Then i glued the engine into the chassis. I also added the hoses and other engine parts like battery and radiator. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The chassis by itself was also completed. I added the front and rear suspension on it. This time no wheatering, but showroom stock ![]() ![]() ![]() Now I have to start on the body or interior, but I still haven't the right custom paint, so I'll have to wait. Kris.

Re: 1967 Chevrolet Corvette - Con Air
Today I primed the body. It needs some sanding before paint, but finally I can go further with this project, cause the paint finally arrived.
![]() ![]() The guy I always order my Sikkens paint, didn't react anymore, so I had to find a solution to get this paint. Since Hiroboy doens't mix Corvette paints I had to find a color which is close to Marina Blue from Corvette. I found a pic of a Rover 75 with a nice Ice Blue color, and I think it's close to the corvette color. ![]() So I ordered it at Steve: ![]() ![]() This is the original color btw: ![]() I hope to paint it tomorrow after sanding the primer smooth! Kris.

Re: 1967 Chevrolet Corvette - Con Air
After some sanding on the body, I putted another layer of primer on it.
Yesterday I painted the body Ice Blue from Rover BLMC. After a few coats I was pretty happy with the result ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The interior is the same color so I also painted that after primer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I noticed the hood don't fit properly with the engine under it, so I have to find that out. Hope to clearcoat it this week. Kris.
