Re: Silver high-mirrored F1 spotted in London

You can put a registration plate on retention (as in that you're not using it on a car, but you continue to pay the DVLA for exclusive entitlement to have access to it should you wish to put it on a car), but any registration plate on retention is not associated with a specific car, and will not come up on the DVLA database as being on the car it was last on (because another number could be on that car now). That is to say, if a number comes up on the database, it is on that car currently; it is not on retention. Also, the registration number need not correspond to the year of manufacture. The rule is that the year of the registration may not be later than the year of the car's manufacture, but it may be earlier. My friend had a car that was brand new but used an older registration as it [flukely] spelt out the initials of his name.

#033 was repaired, but the then owner of #033 who had the accident didnt replace it with #040.

I very much doubt Flemke would have stated in public who he did / did not buy the car from; he is the true 007 where secrecy is concerned

That could certainly explain the "Year of Manufacture 1999" discrepancy.

Also, I recall reading that it wasn't that #033 could not be repaired, but rather that the owner chose to order a new F1 to replace it, which was #040. Interesting too, or at least it seems to be a connection in my mind, that both have high mirrors.

- perhaps, anyway.

The date of that accident was ~June of 1995, as I recall - which would have meant it sat around for a long time before anyone decided to spend the money to rebuild it.

I think I had the above in the back of my mind when I wrote this

I have not heard if #033 was repaired; it's plausible, yes, but for definite?

I will find the quote - he did not mention the previous owner by name, but confirmed the initials when someone else on PistonHeads asked.

How many DH's that have owned four F1s could there be?

#033, #040, #018 and #13R btw.

Well Greg - I took up your challenge last night, and I think I did a fairly decent job with it.

A comparison to the original:

And before you ask... No, I don't have the time to do the GTR Racing History section as well.

Mr. F said that he bought his car from a German with the initials HS.

Thank you for the correction - I had been meaning to go back and re-verify what I wrote earlier, but there's quite a bit to read through over there.

I probably never would have found it looking for the wrong initials either.

I won't sit and wonder how I got that wrong (), but it is one of those 'That changes everything' kind of instances.

Amazing how two little letters can do that. I should really write more things down like some of the others do here. Strange... but again, thanks!
