Re: Silver high-mirrored F1 spotted in London

It is hard to be sure, as 4 out of the 5 high-mirrored F1s began life in silver, and 3 still are. You could exclude #040 from the list of possibilities for that factory photo if you knew the date this shot was taken, and the date his car's refit was complete, assuming the second one occurred after the first.

I seem to recall though, and can look it up later, that the factory photo was taken in the 2001/2002 time frame.

Re: Silver high-mirrored F1 spotted in London

#040 also had the "F1 MCL" plate during its earlier years, interesting.

I recall seeing #040 on its shake down tests at a proving ground here in the UK in 95. What made it stand out, was the high mounted mirrors and its highly polished wheels. All other road F1,s I,d seen up till then were standard, (not counting the clinic model.)

Re: Silver high-mirrored F1 spotted in London

Am almost certain the reg F1 MCL is owned by Mclaren and used as a sort of trade plate when a car is being road tested. Would of course be willing to be corrected on that one.

Re: Silver high-mirrored F1 spotted in London

Keep in mind that wacky "Year of Manufacture 1999" from the DVLA website that references this plate currently.

Makes me think it could be something strange, like possibly #010 or #033 put back together with a new chassis after their massive accidents many years back. Just throwing that out there...

Me wrong

#040 had "F1 MAC" as its early UK plate.

Re: Silver high-mirrored F1 spotted in London

Correct - and 'F1 MAC' was also the plate assigned to #011 when Christies sold it in June 2003.

There are a couple of photos that show the 'F1 MCL' plate on the nose of XP1 LM, but I have never seen it, or any other plate, on the rear.

Very interesting
A new F1 would be awesome ! It's sad nobody look at the chassis plate...

Re: Silver high-mirrored F1 spotted in London

Just looked at the larger version of the side view, and it would seem we can eliminate Lauren's two high-mirrored F1s as possibilities based on the UK-sized front plate that car is wearing.

Also, here's the answer on the date the photos were taken:

Quote:
I will be put some more photo up soon with some photo i took from my visited
to the factory in 2001.

tak43
I forget when Flemke said he purchased #040 from DH. Maybe someone has time to look that up via PistonHeads.com, but I'd imagine it was after 2001 and certainly his refit came later than that (assumption). We can probably also exclude #040, however, based on the fact that the wheels aren't polished, and the front plate it wore when silver (at least in the photos I have) was much smaller.

If you agree with all of that, then this has to be the same F1 that keeps showing up around London.

The Gallardo and F1 were spotted together in London as far back as July

Re: Silver high-mirrored F1 spotted in London

#040 was repainted in 2002. The polished wheels were only on the car for the first owner for a short time, that included the magazine shoot for the German car magazine Autowelt. The wheels were back in their normal silver paint when #040 changed hands to it's current owner.

The pic Le Man showed of the silver F1 with the high mirrors, and Chris showed us the other angled shot, could be #040 as for a while before the current owner had the colour changed it wore the UK standard registration plate on the front, before that it was the standard German style / size.

I've been advised that the chassis # of the car that started this whole thread is in the public arena; it just needs some collective inspiration to narrow it down to the correct car..........
