Clunking? '98 Regal
Hi, I have a '98 Regal LS.
I recently replaced the driver's side axle and ever since then, i have been getting this unusual clunking noise on the drivers side. The clunking noise happens when I accelerate from a complete stop, and when i apply the brake. It also clunks when i'm taking a turn or pulling up a driveway. I replaced the struts, tie rod ends, and ball joints, and still getting the noise. I'm more than sure it's not the motor mounts, cuz' i don't feel the clunk in the body. It's not affecting the driving performance of the car... Totally lost... Any ideas anyone!? |

Re: Clunking? '98 Regal
Whats the mileage?
Another possibility is the hub assembly. Was it ever replaced? What torque figure was used on the axle nut?

Re: Clunking? '98 Regal
The car has 193k on it.
As far as i know, the hub has never been replaced. I've owned the vehicle for a couple months now... I took the car down to the shop today to get an alignment done, after that, the car stopped clunking... Problem solved I guess? Thanks for the response. |
