life span of Ignition wires?

97 GS...164.000 miles....at 110.000 replaced plugs with iridium and new ignition wires...Now i think it mat be mis firing a little....Is 55,000 miles alot for a standard set of wires? I also think it could be a coil pack...I will scan tommorrow but dont have a ses light coming on...

What brand ignition wires? The OE Packard Silicone and AC Delco Premium Silicone 7mm replacement ignition wires are 100K mile wires. The wire resistance should be 600 ohms per foot.

I cant remember the brand...I usually try to get Delco or OE when possible...The coil packs have never been replaced...Only thing is that the SES is not coming on...I went to AutoZone to scan and the guy brought out a B.S scanner....I think it only reads codes for emissions...when he plugged it in it said 'passed'...I know my Regal has other codes showing...such as...front right hub and security code for the passkey...

You may try changing them but if you replaced with a plug that has more than one point of spark like bosch plus 2 or something i would change those also and just replace them with standard acdelco. i have seen the different points on the plug melt off and damage the piston head and cylinder wall.

To check ABS and chassis codes (DTC) the tech has to use a scan tool capable of reading out these codes. So the one used was probably odb-ii emissions only. ABS and traction control codes should be looked at because they can cause what is perceived as a misfire. Part of the function is engine power is abruptly reduced when it perceives wheel spin or there is an abnormal signal from a wheel sensor.

On the wires easy to tell if they are OE GM or AC Delco. Just look at the markings on the wires. If AC Delco it will say AC Delco Premium Silicone 7mm and will not have the cylinder numbers like the OE GM Packard wires.

For the coils you can do a DIY check of primary and secondary coil resistance with a multimeter.

Ignition coil primary resistance = 0.5 to 0.9 Ohms
Ignition coil secondary resistance = 5K to 10K Ohms

While coil packs are off check for corrosion or any arcing where they meet up to the ignition control module.
