2001 Buick Regal LS - 143k mi. - Radio Volume Jumps
After installing some Infiniti 3-way speakers in my rear deck about a year ago, I've enjoyed fantastic sound out of my factory stereo (NOT the Monsoon system, just the standard version).
Two days ago, the volume starts jumping (from any volume) to super-high volume that will make you jump. It will not maintain any volume for more than a few seconds before jumping higher. Most of the time, it is a quick burst and goes back to where it was, but this is making it impossible to listen to the stereo. Same issue on AM, FM and CD. Is it possible I just have a bad volume switch that can be replaced? I've always had to push it a little harder than I thought should be necessary to get it to turn on/off. Or is this the kind of thing that requires installing a new stereo? If it's going to cost more than $500, I probably will have to wait on fixing it. |

Re: 2001 Buick Regal LS - 143k mi. - Radio Volume Jumps
Yeah it sounds like either replacing the head unit with either new or used or getting it repaired by a Delco authorized stereo repair center. Or if you have DIY capability and like tinkering it may not hurt to remove the head unit and take it apart.
