Re: WIP - Customer's Slant Six-Powered Lotus Super 7

Looks like a pretty cool project--that blower case seems to be an especially good-quality part. Keep us updated (though I'm sure you don't need to be told that)

Re: WIP - Customer's Slant Six-Powered Lotus Super 7

Had to make my own steering column to hold the wheel, since it's originally a right-hand drive car. I shaved all the gauges off the right side, put a speedo and oil gauge on the left, I'll add some more I think. Seats are out of a Mitsubishi Evo, just had to shave some material off the outside edges to make them fit.

Just thought I'd show a pic of the for sure completed engine... Accessory belt came with the Ross Gibson kit, added a little air cleaner. Gonna throw the rest together soonly.

The air cleaner looks very nice!

The steering column seems too thick IMHO
What's the deal with the seat backs? Are they hollow?

Re: WIP - Customer's Slant Six-Powered Lotus Super 7

yes sir, they are, gonna assume they're sort of "bare bones" racing seats with just a bit of padding. And once the cage and belts are in place, I think it'll look quite natural.

And I think the column just looks too big because it's white and verything else is black. I'm not necessarily going for the original Seven look (just the bare steering shaft.) I think it'll look okay when it's together and painted.

Re: WIP - Customer's Slant Six-Powered Lotus Super 7

Threw a bunch of the suspension together... coilover shocks were painted silver then detailed with a red Sharpie. The rear shocks got the same treatment. Then dropped the engine in, using square styrene stock to make new motor mounts. It sits awful low below the car, there's not much clearance--this car wouldn't do speedbumps!

And here's the wheels I'm likely going with, though I'm not sure on the colour yet. They're from a Fujimi Mine's Lancer Evo.

Mounted the stock headlights, stole some rear disc brakes from I *think* a Revell Corvette, got the Evo VII wheels mounted (painted Dupli-color primer Grey with clearcoat)... Mounted the little windshield too. Also added the photo-etched grille. Now to start bending styrene for a rollcage.

Re: WIP - Customer's Slant Six-Powered Lotus Super 7

Customer decided to go with a cage, so it can be a street/road course piece. So I started mocking up 0.100" styrene rod, bending it with candle flame. Also installed a new master cylinder beside the battery with brake lines, and some more underhood detail work... gotta do the seatbelts next.
