Revell 1931 Ford Model A station wagon

I actually finished this kit quite a while ago, but just now got around to posting the pics. Sorry for the large size, I forgot to change the camera settings and by the time I realized it the model had been delivered.

This kit was built for a friend who doubted his ability to build it himself, being a novice modeler. It's lucky he didn't try--I had a ton of trouble myself! The kit, though well-detailed, is old, and the fit and finish is quite poor. The problem is compounded by the kit's numerous features: opening doors, tailgate, butterfly-hinging hood, and steerable wheels. However, I was able to do a pretty decent job despite a horrible primering experience and some other significant difficulties.

I can guarantee that the details I added are comprehensive and authentic, because I studied two different real Model A's and made pages of diagrams and measurements. Everything, from the mechanical brake linkage and electrical wiring, to the fuel system, spark plug wires, and dipstick have been carefully replicated. Now, the pics: Enjoy!

that looks GREAT, tremendous engine bay detail! Only comment is to maybe try dry brushing a slightly darker shade of brown over the body panels to give it a woodgrain texture (like those wagons I built.) Cool build!

Thanks for the comments. Actually, the model has excellent, very realistic-looking molded-on woodgrain texture; it's just hard to see in the pics. I felt that it looked good as is. Thanks for the idea though.

Oh, and I forgot to mention: for the hose clamps I used Model Car Garage old style hose bands (photoetch)--I rate them A+++! They are super-realistic and look amazing; I would recommend them to all, and for pretty much any car with hoses.

Great job on the engine! The body too, I know how finicky it is to have all the doors line up right. But yea, the texture IS on the plastic, but I think Tigger meant like, how it is all just one color wood. As in a 1:1, it would be a different type, or different stain on the center sections, than the bracing/framing around it. Kinda like this handsome green bastard
